Sierra Business Council asks for support to change proposed redistricting boundaries

As the deadline for final maps draws near for the 10-year legislative redistricting, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission has been working on redrawing lines that we will live by for the next decade.

The Sierra Business Council (SBC) said they normally do not weigh in on individual legislative representation, but said they do believe that the composition of legislative districts is an important foundation that determines how the region will be represented in the future.

The latest version of the Congressional District maps in the Sierra Nevada region could be improved, according to SBC. The current proposed congressional districts have divided the central Sierra, separating key communities with common interests. Some of the divisions include separating eastern El Dorado and Placer Counties from the western counties, separating Truckee from Lake Tahoe, and separating Nevada County from Placer and El Dorado.

SBC has prepared a letter suggesting a more rational Congressional District configuration based on the map shown above, label SBC map. It keeps the Sierra communities together. They are asking the public to sign their name to the letter they are presenting to the Commission by close of business on Tuesday, November 30.
