New storm brewing for this weekend for Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With a Winter Weather Warning in place for Lake Tahoe until 4:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving, another new alert has been issued for the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lake Tahoe from Saturday at 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. Heavy snow with significant travel delays possible Saturday afternoon through early Monday morning.

For the Winter Storm Warning, periods of snow with additional accumulations of up to 4 inches at lake level and up to 8 inches above 7000 feet through Thanksgiving afternoon. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy snow with accumulations of 8 to 16 inches at lake level and 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet is possible.

The best travel window appears to be Friday until Saturday morning.

As with slow-moving low-pressure systems, the forecast remains challenging over the next few days as waves of energy rotating around the low. Snow levels will remain very low with plenty of moisture and instability in place, the set up continues to be favorable for snow bands to drop just enough snow to cause some travel chaos the next couple days, according to NWS Reno.
