Lake Tahoe woman starts fundraiser to wipe out local medical debt

Did you know there is currently $24M in medical debt in California, with counties close to El Dorado and Placer counties making up over $3M of it? A local woman has created a fundraiser that, for every $100 donated, $10,000 in medical debt is wiped out, and for $10,000 donated, $1M in medical debt is wiped out.

According to https://ripmedicaldebt.org/, El Dorado County residents have $309,340.98 of medical debt.

RIP Medical Debt was founded in 2014 by two former debt collection executives. Over the course of decades in the debt-buying industry, they met with thousands of Americans saddled with unpaid and un-payable medical debt and realized they were uniquely qualified to help those in need. They are a New York-based 501(C)(3). They have been able to have billions in medical debt eradicated so far, providing financial relief for millions of individuals and families.

Amanda Kendall of eXp Realty - Lake Tahoe, has started the Lake Tahoe fundraiser through RIP with a goal of $10,000. While the concentration of funds raised will go to El Dorado and Placer counties, some benefits may read the surrounding counties where there is a large amount of medical debt.
