SLT City Council agenda includes marijuana, VHRs and craft shows

A full agenda awaits the new City Council as soon as the two new members are sworn in on Tuesday, December 13.

The 9:00 a.m. meeting in the council chambers at the Lake Tahoe Airport starts with the Administeration of Oath to Brooke Laine and Jason Collin and will be followed by a presentation by South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler on what the passage of Proposition 64 means for the city. He will be joined by others from Barton and the Drug Free Coalition who will discuss the implications on the community with increased access to marijuana.

Craft shows, vacation home rentals, a proposed climbing gym, and a transfer of a privately held Residential Development Right from a California property to a Nevada property for use in building employee housing in the Round Hill Community Plan.

A 2:00 p.m. time certain agenda item will discuss the appeal of City Manager Nancy Kerry's determination that the application from Tahoe Wellness Cooperative (TWC) to continue operating a dispensary is incomplete. TWC owner Cody Bass is in a legal battle with the owners of the Bijou Center where he operates his medical marijuana business. Part of the requirement to operate is the consent of the landlord, and Bass has been unable to obtain that. The City has given Bass extensions to try and obtain it since his license to operate expired on May 20, 2016. His last extension from the City expired on November 9.

Bass submitted his application without the center owner's consent, and without the required $7,000 application fee. Bass is appealing the City's decision to terminate his license to operate.
