South Lake Tahoe home damaged in early morning fire

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An early morning fire damaged the second floor of a South Lake Tahoe home on Springwood Avenue Monday.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue received the emergency call just before 5:00 a.m. December 14. Upon arrival they found a home with heavy smoke coming from the second floor. The homeowners were able to get out safely after trying to extinguish the flames.

Firefighters were able to respond quickly from all three South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) fire houses along with Lake Valley Fire in a matter of minutes, despite the snowy road conditions. With a quick interior attack on the fire, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the second floor. Assistance was also provided by the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Protection District as well as from the Cal Tahoe EMS Authority.

This incident marks the first house fire that SLTFR Truck 2 has responded to and is already proving its worth, according to Chief Clive Savacool.

The timely response from all first responders and quick action by the two residents prevented any injuries.

This incident is a good reminder to regularly check that smoke detectors operate properly and to have an “ABC rated” fire extinguisher in both your kitchen and garage, added Savacool.
