Road controls in place for Lake Tahoe roads

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As many still dig out of their homes and businesses as they wait for power to be restored around Lake Tahoe, a new storm is on the way and road controls remain in place for all mountain highways.

Snow is expected to return by 1:00 p.m. today as new winter weather warning goes into place.

Due to heavy snowfall, sections of upper Mt. Rose Highway remain closed for driver safety. Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) highway maintenance crews have been working in staggered shifts for 24-hour snow removal throughout the storm. Through the late morning and early afternoon, crews will conduct avalanche control near the Mt. Rose Highway summit and will be working diligently to clear snow and reopen the highway as soon as safe for motorists.

"NDOT reminds motorists that winter driving conditions are ever-changing. With another storm approaching our region, drivers should check NVRoads.com for updated highway controls and conditions before traveling. We also remind drivers to only travel when absolutely necessary in winter weather," said Meg Ragonese of NDOT.
