Winter Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe Monday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area including Truckee, Markleeville, Tahoe City, and South Lake Tahoe. The advisory is for Monday, December 16 from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Expect wet snow with snow accumulations up to 6 inches west of SR 89 with up to an inch at lake level. Ridge winds gusting as high as 80 mph. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph with wave heights between 1 and 3 feet on Lake Tahoe.

After the quick storm leaves, highs will get into the 50s by Wednesday.

The week's forecast for South Lake Tahoe from NWS Reno:

Monday - Snow before 1 pm, then rain. High near 44. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Monday Night - A 30 percent chance of rain before 7 pm. Snow level 6900 feet lowering to 6400 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tuesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Calm wind.

Wednesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low of around 20.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 55.

Thursday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 53.

Friday Night - A slight chance of rain and snow. Snow level 7700 feet lowering to 7200 feet after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Saturday - A chance of rain and snow. Snow level 6900 feet rising to 7500 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 50.
