Wreaths Across America becoming a Tahoe Tradition

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 3rd annual Wreaths Across America ceremony at Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe was held in very chilly temperatures on Saturday, December 18.

Not even a 12-degree morning, could stop the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) from organizing the event with participants including El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel, South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue Chief Clive Savacool, and Battalion Chief Karl Koeppen, and Sergeant Blake Braafladt and Deputy Nick Jones from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Honor Guard.

Presided over by Lake Tahoe Chapter Regent Rosemary Manning, the ceremony included participation by DAR chapter members, bagpiper Maria DeLallo, American Legion Post 795 members (John Lingar, Commander), and American Legion Women’s Auxiliary members (Carol Olivas, President).

Decorated wreaths were placed at the cemetery’s Wall of Honor for each branch of our nation’s armed forces, POW/MIA’s, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and our nation’s Revolutionary War Patriots.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember those who serve and have served in our nation’s armed forces and as first responders, to honor their service and sacrifice, and to teach future generations the importance of honoring and remembering these brave individuals. Wreaths Across America Ceremonies were conducted at the same time in over 3,000 locations across the United States - at national cemeteries, state veterans’ cemeteries, local cemeteries where veterans are buried, veterans’ monuments, and on ships at sea.
