South Lake Tahoe SnowGlobe: STHS Grad Hits the Stage With Vokab Kompany

The 2013 SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe is just a few days away and the musicians and promoters are starting to arrive in town!

Robbie Gallo, a member of Vokab Kompany, is coming home for the holidays....and home is South Lake Tahoe. The 1998 graduate of South Tahoe High School arrived in town Monday and will be on the SnowGlobe main stage with his band on New Year's Eve. He says it means a lot to him to be in South Lake Tahoe to spend time with his mother and little brothers. "Having your family support your passion is what keeps me going."

Gallo is the MC and frontman for the San Diego based hip hop band, Vokab Kompany. He took some time out of his schedule this week to answer some questions for SouthTahoeNow.com.

How did your band get it's name? Vokab(ulary): We like to think our lyrics have a little more substance. Kompany: We play with a big band and also referencing to the good "kompany" we keep.

The group has a unique sound that has been used on commercials, including the Southern Comfort one seen on this article. Sam Dorman, from NBC, described their music as "a sound who's genre goes something like hip-hop, soul, electro, funk. You have two Emcee's who charge sped-up lyrical flows; made to sound effortless... seamless synergy with their voices and their lyrics are playfully vivacious and positive... layered with creative electro beats."

Gallo is hoping for snow on New Year's Eve when they're performing. He said that those at the show can expect some surprises from them, including a cover track.

The band is comprised of 7 guys from across the country: Gallo, 32, from South Lake Tahoe; Matt Burke, 36. from Boston, MA; Geoff Nigl, 30, from San Diego; Jasper Skydecker, 31. from Monterey, CA; Viking, 35 "no one really knows where in the Milky Way he's from;" Spencer Sharpe, 32, from Atlanta, GA; and Jesse Molloy, 31 and from Eugene, OR.
