Lake Wind Advisory in place for Lake Tahoe as first wave of systems arrives

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday. They said to expect southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Wave heights from 2 to 3 feet are expected, with the highest waves from mid-lake to the north and east shores.

Small boats, kayaks, and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

This is a fast-moving weather system. There is a 30 percent chance of snow after 4 p.m. at South Lake Tahoe, with snow levels above 6400 feet. Wednesday night, the snow level rises to 7600 with Little to no snow accumulation expected.

The next chance for snow is this weekend, starting Friday night. At this time it doesn't appear to be a strong storm, but watch the forecast as the system gets closer.
