Canada's CF-18 Demo Team has just been added to this year's lineup at the Minden-Tahoe Airport's Aviation Roundup to be held October 7-8, 2017. They join an impressive group of teams and performers including the USAF Thunderbirds, US Army Golden Knights, US Navy Tac Demo Team, Greg Koontz & the Alabama Boys, Rob Holland, Jacquie B, Bob Carlton, Smoke N Thunder and other fighter jets.

Besides the action in the air there will be numerous attractions accessible to the public including a wide variety of items for sale and informational booths, over 70 in all.

"I'm so proud of our community and this great turnout," said South Lake Tahoe City Councilman Tom Davis during Monday's annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Happy Homestead Cemetery.

A larger crowd than normal watched the ceremony which featured boys and girl scouts, music and speakers that included Gold Star Mom Patty Smith. Her son, Sgt. Timothy Michael Smith, was one of three South Lake Tahoe men to die in action since the September 11 attacks in 2001. Smith, 25, who died April 7, 2008, after his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.

Thomas A. DeGuide, long time local resident and former owner of The Goal Post, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2017 in Carson City at the age of 71 with his wife and son at his side.

Boy Scouts from around the region took part in "Minden Youth Aviation Adventure" at the Minden-Tahoe Airport last weekend.

The event, sponsored by the Sports Aviation Foundation, drew more than 70 members of the Nevada Area Council of Boy Scouts of America.

Runners and walkers gathered at IHOP in Carson City early Tuesday morning to commemorate the victims of the IHOP mass shooting that happened five years ago today in Carson City.

On Sept. 6, 2011, Nevada Guardsmen Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31, and civilian Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67, of South Lake Tahoe, were killed in the shooting rampage, in which a mentally ill gunman took his own life. Two other soldiers and seven patrons were injured.

Steve Leonard died peacefully in the company of his family on Thursday, July 7 , 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen Leonard; children, Tess and Benjamin Leonard; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Brenda Leonard; brother, Jack Leonard ; nephews, Jon and Sam Leonard, and Lance Rominger. He is preceded by his parents, John and Opal Leonard, and sister, Sharon Leonard.

The flag is flying half-staff at the TRPA offices today in honor of the passing of Coe Swobe who has been called the “Father of the Tahoe Bi-State Compact.”

Former Nevada State Sen. Coe Swobe died Thursday of liver failure at the age of 87.

“Lake Tahoe and the state of Nevada lost a stalwart champion in Coe Swobe,” said Joanne S. Marchetta, TRPA’s Executive Director. “Coe directed his passion for the lake into a lasting legacy that serves as an international symbol of cooperation in protecting an irreplaceable natural resource.”

Just seventeen days ago, Joel Suenkel was leading troops in Wiesbaden, Germany as an Army Colonel. The 30 year veteran of serving in the Armed Forces wrapped up his career when he retired on December 1. Just five days later he was in South Lake Tahoe in his new position as Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the US Forest Service.

Sports and entertainment stars, including many of the current and future Hall of Famers, MVPs and stars who golf in South Lake Tahoe's annual celebrity tournament, will be teeing it up in the inaugural Diamond Resorts Invitational celebrity golf tournament at the Golden Bear Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 14-16, 2016.

Mysterious booms have plagued the residents of El Dorado County in California for some time now. While some have speculated what the cause of these booms has been, it's remained a mystery until now.

Residents have reported that the booms aren't as crisp as a gunshot, and instead sound more like an aerial bomb. A few have speculated that it could be the result of work occurring in an underground mine.

Reno resident Tony Herrin, 36, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller to two years and nine months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $411,333 for theft of government property, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

Nevada and 12 other states took swift action Monday to challenge an Obama administration rule expanding the federal government’s authority over non-navigational waters.

The suit, joined by Attorney General Adam Laxalt with the blessing of Gov. Brian Sandoval, was filed in federal court in the southeastern district of North Dakota on the same day a final rule expanding the definition of “Waters in the United States” was published in the Federal Register.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board on Wednesday unanimously approved the Tahoe Transportation District’s State Route 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project to realign State Route 89 through Tahoe City.

The project realigns State Route 89 to route through traffic over roundabouts and a new two-lane bridge across the Truckee River to reduce transportation conflicts among drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians at the congested pinch point at the Tahoe City “Wye.”

South Lake Tahoe's major summer event, the American Century Championship, will once again add another U.S. Army veteran and hero to the 2015 event this July.

Retired United States Army Sergeant Major Rodney Gorman will join the field by virtue of his victory in the 2014 George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Warrior Open. He will join Corporal Chad Pfeifer at Edgewood this summer. Pfeifer was the three-time defending Warrior Open champion and the 2014 tournament's fifth place finisher.

"We made sacrifices to keep the fight outside of our homes." An emotional Sheryll Valencia spoke of why she joined the Army in 2004 and made three deployments to Iraq and now works for David & Johnson, Ltd in South Lake Tahoe. "It's important to always remember the ones who sacrificed their lives," Sheryll told the women gathered for Thursday's Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra meeting.

Spc. Sara E. Wiseman from South Lake Tahoe received an Army Achievement Medal for outstanding achievement during a ceremony at Camp Casey in South Korea on August 8.

Wiseman is the noncommissioned officer in charge of the 210th Field Artillery Brigade Public Affairs Office, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 210th FA Bde., 2nd Infantry Division.

The brigade commander, Col. Michael J. Lawson, gave her the award for her achievement as the brigade public affairs officer.
