It's official: NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ coming to Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - It's been a plan in the works for months and today the National Hockey League (NHL) made it official - they are bringing NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ to Edgewood Tahoe February 20-21, 2021.

Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday will showcase the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights on Feb. 20. Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday will feature the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins on Feb. 21. Both games will be broadcast at 3:00 p.m. ET on NBC in the United States and on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office hosts Fright at the Fairgrounds through October

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is hosting their fourth annual “Fright at the Fairgrounds” every Friday and Saturday night through the month of October starting Friday October 2.

Fright at the Fairgrounds happens at the Douglas County Fairgrounds located off Pinenut Road in Gardnerville. Tickets are $5.00 for kids and $10.00 for adults.

Attempts being made to identify those buried at the Al Tahoe Historic Pioneer Cemetery

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There's been movement at the Al Tahoe Historic Pioneer Cemetery, and thankfully it isn't from some of the occupants, most who have had that as their final resting spot since the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Mural in Tahoe East Shore Trail tunnel unveiled

The community mural art project in the tunnel on the popular Tahoe East Shore Trail was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday. The mural, painted by local husband and wife art and design duo, Tyler Rivenbark and Frida Ticehurst-Rivenbark, was completed with help from students at Lake Tahoe School in Incline Village.

Events Center approved by Douglas County Commissioners

STATELINE, Nev. - In what has been a hotly debated topic for months between the five Douglas County Board of Commissioners and members of the public, the Tahoe South Events Center passed the final hurdle Thursday. In a 3-2 vote, the commissioners approved bond issuance, the final step in the approval process. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) had previously unanimously approved it.

North Lake Tahoe artists selected for East Shore Trail mural

Stateline redevelopment area remains intact after Douglas County Commissioners' decision

STATELINE, Nev. - Douglas County Redevelopment Area No. 2 (RDA2) at Stateline is moving forward despite a move to have it dissolved by Douglas County Commissioner Dave Nelson.

There was an overflow crowd at the commissioner's June 20 meeting at Lake Tahoe. Many of those who could not fit in the meeting room were accommodated with audio feed in the judges' chambers and the bottom floor of the parking garage.

3rd annual Tahoe Brewfest benefits Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club

Restoration project at historic Pioneer Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe

Gingerbread displays at Harrah's and Harveys depict Virginia City

Just in time for the holidays, elves from the Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe bakery departments have created two “Gingerbread Virginia City” displays in the lobbies of both of their lobbies.

It took 400 pounds of fresh secret gingerbread spiced dough and 120 pounds of royal icing to create the hundreds of gingerbread cutout, house, numerous frosted candies, candy canes and pinecones which are part of the displays. There was also 200 hours of craftsmen-like hard work accomplished with the help of five of Harrah’s and Harveys top international culinary students working on the projects.

New deputy forest supervisor selected for Lake Tahoe Basin

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is pleased to announce that Danelle D. Harrison was selected as the new Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Basin. Harrison arrived at the LTBMU a few weeks ago and comes to us from the Kaibab National Forest in Arizona, where she served as the District Ranger for both the Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts since 2014.

Magical display of themed Christmas trees at South Lake Tahoe holiday event

The grand hall at MontBleu Casino Resort has been turned into a holiday paradise, a winter wonderland with the main attraction being the specialty Christmas trees.

On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.

The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.

Disneyland to close attractions to make way for new Star Wars land

To make way for "Star Wars," Disneyland is about to launch its largest expansion ever, which means shutting down a significant chunk of the Anaheim theme park.

Volunteers help make Celebrity Golf a great event

The celebrities have been gone from South Lake Tahoe for over a week, back to their jobs and families. While they were the attraction of the American Century Golf Championship, the true stars were the volunteers who made it all happen.

Volunteers helped in many aspects. Soroptimists had their food tents and spent every day serving sandwiches, drinks, chips and snacks.

The Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition had a group out each day, manning the bike valet for the 200 cyclists that used their free services.

Justin Timberlake already a crowd-pleaser at American Century

Fans of the American Century Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe have grown accustomed to superstars, but the addition of actor, singer, golfer Justin Timberlake may bring a whole new meaning to "celebrity" for many in the galleries.

This is Timberlake's first time playing in the tournament at Edgewood Tahoe. The six handicap avid golfer is getting the attention of many who don't usually follow golf.

The 34-year-old Timberlake will tee off at 9 a.m. on Wednesday with actor Alfonso Ribeiro. The two will be paired with amateur players selected to join them.

The owners of Heavenly Village Cinemas want to turn an empty third floor space on the property into a restaurant and bar with an entertainment venue with stadium style seating for 110 people. But, in order to do so, they need to buy some extra commercial floor area (CFA) from the City of South Lake Tahoe.

A Lake Tahoe breakfast tradition for more than 50 years

The scene: The 1950s were a huge decade of change for South Lake Tahoe, with the proliferation of casinos on the Nevada side and the creation of the one-chair Heavenly ski resort on the California side. But the main attraction, then as now, was the lake itself, its shore dotted with mom-and-pop motels, vacation cottages and souvenir shops. El Dorado County Fair Opens in Placerville

It's that time of year again. The county fair, full of funnel cakes, carnival rides, animals, music, exhibits, wheelbarrow races, wine and beer competition and good old fashioned fun.

The El Dorado County Fair opened on Thursday and runs through Sunday, Father's Day at the fairgrounds in Placerville. The theme this year is "Photos, Fathers and Fairs."

The County Sheriff's Office invites community members to stop by their booth and see the brand new state of art patrol vehicles. They'll have a new SUV and sedan on display so people can see inside and check out their new features.

Lake Tahoe Tourism Officials Denounce Fireworks Lawsuit

With Tahoe South’s two annual fireworks celebrations meeting all state and federal standards throughout their 30-year history, area tourism officials strongly denounced a lawsuit that could threaten the annual July Fourth and Labor Day events as totally unnecessary.

In November, Joseph and Joan Truxler, of Zephyr Cove, Nev., filed a federal lawsuit against the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Pyro Spectaculars North alleging the twice-annual fireworks shows violated the Clean Water Act.

Kirkwood adds U.S. Airbag technology after holiday demonstration

An inflatable airbag demonstration at Kirkwood Mountain Resort last month will give way to a new feature at the resort beginning in February, officials announced. Mt. Rose plan means millions more coming in upgrades

Nevada backers of a plan to ring Lake Tahoe with a scenic bikeway are $6 million closer to completing the $82 million trail.
