Lake Tahoe wildlife center is busy with bears
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 02/07/2013 - 11:27amWinter is usually a slow time for a wildlife rescue center at Lake Tahoe, but this year is different. The center has more orphaned bear cubs than ever before. The good news is, they are all healthy and will be returned to the wild. ABC7 News took a look at what it takes to give a baby bear a second chance at life.
You may remember some bear cubs we showed you last summer when they were confiscated in Nevada County, taken from a man who was trying to sell them. One little cub was found near Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Her mother was illegally killed by a hunter using dogs.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has received about 120 bear complaints thus far in 2012, according to bear biologist Carl Lackey.
While the year is shaping up to be a bit busier than 2011, it’s nothing compared to what Lackey originally expected in the wake of a remarkably dry winter.
