Buckeye Creek project on Douglas County Planning Commission agenda Tuesday

Much like the lake side of El Dorado County and the west slope don’t always see eye to eye, the Douglas County portion at the lake, and the valley residents are in the same situation.
The topic currently at the forefront is Buckeye Creek Reservoir, located in the eastern portion of Douglas County. BLM has most of the land in this undeveloped area, and the Douglas County Sewer Improvement District (DCSID) owns 1,001 of those acres.

September 26, 2015 - 10:00am Nevada Gunfighters will be performing in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, September 26, at 10:00 am.
Nevada Gunfighters bring the old West to life with drama, comedy, historical portrayals and live action tales. Period dialog and authentic costumes, along with props and backdrops enhance their productions. As an added benefit to their presentations, the audience is educated in gun safety.

Storyteller Tom Wade presents “Jumping Cows, Snarling Bobcats and Other Farm Adventure Stories” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday September 16, at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
Tom Wade grew up on a small farm in Michigan as the oldest son in a family of ten children, and honed his storytelling skills at the family dinner table. An energetic teller of mostly-true tales, Wade’s farm and family stories engage and delight people of all ages.

August 26, 2015 - 6:30pm Karla Huntsman will combine the art of storytelling with her talent as a musician, in a performance at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday August 26, at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
Making meaning through story and theater activities has been Karla Huntsman’s life work. Huntsman believes in the power of storytelling to infuse life, joy, connection with self, and connection with others no matter the age of the listener. She sings, plays guitar, autoharp, washboard and djembe drum as part of her storytelling performances.

Bed Turning with Carson Valley Quilt Guild at Dangberg Historic Park

July 18, 2015 - 10:00am Carson Valley Quilt Guild will demonstrate a Bed Turning in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 am.
A Bed Turning is an opportunity to share the art and stories of heritage quilts. In this program, members of the guild will display a collection of quilts, share the story of each quilt and discuss the history of quilting.
The presentation is part of the park’s Western Arts & Crafts Series and is sponsored by Bently Ranch, SoaringNV, The Record-Courier and the Frances C. and William P. Smallwood Foundation.

Chautauqua: Steve Hale portrays George Whittell, Jr., "Playboy Millionaire Who Built the Thunderbird Lodge"

June 10, 2015 - 6:30pm Chautauqua performer Steve Hale will present “George Whittell, Jr." who lived off the interest generated by the millions he inherited from his parents. His enormous assets allowed him to purchase the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe where he built the Thunderbird Lodge in the 1930s. The house was designed by prominent Reno architect Frederick DeLongchamps. This included a six-hundred-foot tunnel connected to a boat house to berth the “Thunderbird”, his fifty-five-foot mahogany yacht.

Christina explores the performing arts of traditional singing, drumming and dancing. She has given lessons in the Paiute language, tells traditional stories, shares knowledge of traditional foods and plants, and also discusses the history of the Great Basin native peoples; and gives her unique perspective on contemporary Native American issues.

'Something in the Wind' kite festival at Dangberg Ranch

Kites will take to the skies above historic Dangberg Ranch over the weekend of May 16-17 during the "Something in the Wind" festival. Expert kite flyers, kite making and other children's crafts, as well as wind artists will be featured.
This is a celebration of the Washoe Zephyr, the seasonal diurnal winds that are in Western Nevada.
There will be eight expert kite flyers from the Rogue Valley Windchasers Kite Club from Brookings, OR at the two day event along with Balloon Nevada with their hot air balloons on display.

Douglas County recognizes Business of the Year; Zephyr Cove company wins Wagon Wheel Award

Two Douglas County businesses took home top awards on November 6 during Northern Nevada Development Authority’s (NNDA) Pioneer Awards. The Pioneer Awards recognized businesses in 5 county regions and each county chose a business of the year. Douglas County’s Business of the Year Award went to Bently Enterprises.
Bently was selected based on alignment with the County’s five guiding economic vitality principles:
