Local Author to Share his 500 Miles of SLT Hikes

South Lake Tahoe native Aaron Hussmann will share his book, "500 Miles of South Lake Tahoe Hikes" at the South Lake Tahoe Library on May 12 at 6 p.m.

After going away to college, Aaron moved back to the Sierra Nevada mountains for an intentional summer of hiking and backpacking that became the basis for his guidebook.

Just in time for hiking season, Hussmanm hopes his work will inspire others to get outdoors and become better stewards of Lake Tahoe.

"Pyramid Lake and the Imagined West" at SLT Library

The Friends of the Library, in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society, are excited to present "Pyramid Lake and the Imagined West". Author Dr. Bernard Mergen is in Reno for new exhibit of this very historically significant Lake and will be coming to the library to share the history of Pyramid Lake from the 1840s to the present in an educational and entertaining way.

Author to share incredible story of murdered, local Sheriff Logan at SLT Library

Author Jackie Boor will present 'LOGAN: The Honorable Life and Scandalous
Death of a Western Lawman'. Ms. Boor is the great granddaughter of this historic sheriff and has unearthed the untold story of his 1906 murder. Dealing with rowdy miners, drunken gamblers, and even Wild West legends like Wyatt Earp was a routine part of the job for onetime Nye County Sheriff Thomas Logan.

This is a story steeped in local history, presented it in an entertaining and informative way. There will be a question and answer session, book sale and signing to follow.

Mountaingirl Mysteries author to speak at SLT Library

Author to Speak about Yosemite's 150th at SLT

Author and Sierra Nevada Native, Gary D. Noy, returns with his newest book, "Sierra Stories: Tales of Dreamers, Schemers, Bigots, and Rogues." This interesting collection highlights unusual or lesser-known stories of the Sierra Nevada experience with the focus of this presentation being the Yosemite Valley Grant Act of 1864, which brought the valley under government control and is considered the beginning of the California State Park system.  This year is the 150th anniversary of that event. The legislation was introduced by an El Dorado County resident, John Conness.

Bright Lights, Dark Places Author Shares Her Story of Being One of the 1st Female Cops in Vegas

Friends of the Library presents Debra Gauthier, one of Las Vegas’ first female police officers, who will share her book that expresses the painful reality of combating biased attitudes and the joy that comes from surpassing limitations. Packed with fascinating stories, Bright Lights, Dark Places gives you an inside look at this interesting career. The author will be sharing from the chapter, "What Have I Gotten Myself Into?" and showing a clip from the television show ‘Cops’. Book sale and signing to follow.

Friends of the Library Looking for Book Donations For November 16 Sale

The South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library are currently accepting donations of books and audio/visual materials for their upcoming book sale. They would greatly appreciate materials only in good condition and with a copyright date no earlier than 2000. Especially needed are recent children’s books and children’s DVDs, as well as recent materials in Spanish. The group would also like to limit audio/visual donations to DVDs & books on Tape/CD.

Bill Morgan, author of "Six Days in Siberia" to discuss his books

Local author Bill Morgan (pen name Wade Morgan) will be discussing his book, Six Days in Siberia, a suspense thriller with overtones of a spy novel on October 1 at 6 pm at the SLT Library. The author has over 50 years of experience as a soldier, civil engineer, forest ranger, director of an environmental regulatory agency, management consultant and technical writer. Mr. Morgan has been to Siberia three times, including an assignment in the town of Baikalsk where he conducted a seminar on conflict resolution for officials of that town.

Local Authors to Read Their New Book "The Crazy Club Gets its Start"

The Friends of the Library are excited to present Christie Rassuchine (Higman) and Robyn Lindner, two authors who grew up in Tahoe. They will be reading from their new book. The story is about a group of elementary school students who form their own club and deal with bullying, acceptance, and what it feels like to be the new kid at school. The characters in the story are in third grade, but the book appeals to kids throughout elementary school.

This is a free, fun event and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Book sale and signing to follow.
