Book Sale

The South Lake Tahoe Library is holding a parking lot/sidewalk book sale on Saturday, November 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tables will be set up with a great selection of books to choose from.

Prices are only $5 a bag and $1 per large, coffee table books. Great selection for fireside reading this winter.

For the health and safety of all, masks will be worn, entry will be monitored to one person (or family group) per table and hand sanitizer will be available. At check-out, correct change is appreciated.

Dear South Lake Tahoe Community, I write this letter of gratitude on behalf of the Friends of the South Lake Tahoe Library. On August 15th, we hosted our very first ever Drive-thru Grab Bag Book Sale. The traditional book sales are our biggest fundraisers and due to CDC restrictions, they are just not possible.

This new format was uncertain but you rose to the challenge. You generously donated books to be sold and you embraced this unique event making it a huge success. Thank you sincerely for being there for the Friends and for your library.

This Event Has Been Canceled Hellacious California: Tales of Rascality, Revelry, Dissipation, Depravity and the Birth of the Golden State. Author, and Sierra Nevada native, Gary Noy returns to launch his newest book which examines the vices of 19th century California such as gambling, drinking, overeating, fighting, eccentric entertainments, sex, con artists, etc. Gary is an exceptional storyteller and is guaranteed to teach all of us something we have never learned before. Book Launch. Tahoe author Jennifer Quashnick returns to introduce us to the fourth novel from her Mountaingirl Mysteries series, "Sierra Nevada Burning Revenge", which continues the adventures of Tahoe local Rachel Winters and her two dogs, Bella and Avi. Join the Friends of the Library as we welcome author Anne Penn. Ms. Penn, a relative of two of the murder victims, will discuss both of her books dealing with the Golden State Killer. Her first, Murder on His Mind, was written to try and help catch the criminal who the author knew was still in Sacramento. Her predictions turned out to be true. Ms. Penn will explain forensics, DNA and Genealogy in the final capture of the Golden State Killer. This is the true story of what we know about who this notorious killer is.

Join the Friends of the Library as we welcome author/photographer Nancy Raven to share her newest book. Upon her arrival in Nevada from Monterey, California, Nancy pondered the best way to explore the interesting state she now calls home. A friend suggested she travel the state photographing each town, which Nancy refined to Nevada’s post offices. In the following months, her quest took her to every corner of Nevada, with her photographs and research blossoming into a beautifully illustrated and informative book. Author and Sierra Nevada native, Gary Noy, returns to South Lake Tahoe to present an illustrated lecture on historical material from his newest book "Gold Rush Stories: 49 Tales of Seekers, Scoundrels, Loss and Luck" on Saturday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m.

His book features forty-nine unique, interesting and sometimes hard to believe, stories from the California Gold Rush.

Not only is he a great author, Gary is a phenomenal storyteller. You won't want to miss this history lesson. A book sale and signing will follow the program.

Author and local historian Frank Tortorich will share his newest book, "John A. “Snowshoe” Thompson Pioneer Mail Carrier of the Sierra", a gripping account of the legendary life, legacy, and accomplishments of Snowshoe Thompson.

The author's knowledge and understanding of the Sierra emigration era serves as a background for what he has been able to express in this book. Join us in an amazing evening of history.

Author Ellen Osborn will share her book, "Lovely & Comfortable Heritage Lost", giving us a unique history of El Dorado County, beginning with the early days of the gold rush and the first conflicts with the Native American tribes of the region. Her book also traces the evolution of California's Highway 50 from its beginning as the Native American trade trail that became a popular Gold Rush route and explains why it has come to be called one of the most storied and romantic roads in American history.

The Friends of the Library, in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society, is excited to welcome back author, Mary Jo Sonntag. Her new presentation answers questions about the early pioneers to our area: What was pioneer life really like? What diseases did pioneers experience?

Her award-winning book, "Write, If You Live to Get There" tells the true story of her ancestor’s westward migration from Vermont to Tahoe through a series of family letters spanning more than 120 years. Interesting, informative and open to all.

Author Todd Borg returns with Tahoe Blue Fire, his 13th Owen McKenna Tahoe Mystery.

Tahoe Blue Fire is about former pro football player Adam Simms who is suffering Traumatic Brain Injury from his days on the gridiron.
