Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/27/2020 - 9:22pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Since 1978, Tom and Cheryl Millham have been operating Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, taking in sick and injured wildlife from across the region with a goal of rehabilitating them for release back into the wild. For most of those years, they used their home and backyard for the cages, aviary, brick enclosures and rehab facilities.
Cinder the Bear found dead in Washington
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/13/2018 - 8:40pmWhen Cinder the Bear arrived in South Lake Tahoe on August 4, 2014 the prognosis wasn't a good one. The 18-month old black bear had been severely burned in the Carlton Complex Fire in Washington and weighed in at just 39 pounds, about half of what a cub her age should be.
The story of her determination and recovery won the hearts of many around the globe and now she is dead.

Cinder, the burned bear, heads back home after rehabilitation in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/22/2014 - 6:47pmIt didn't look good for a 39 pound bear cub after being caught in a 400 square mile fire in the state of Washington. Suffering from 3rd degree burns, the cub was found under a horse trailer in Methow Valley, WA.
A state Department of Fish and Wildlife officer captured her, and a volunteer pilot flew Cinder to California. When she arrived at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) on Aug. 4.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/23/2014 - 6:37amIn what has become a very busy year at Lake Tahoe wildlife Care, another bear was added to their den on Friday after his mother was hit and killed on Hwy 89 near The Cantina on October 4.
Tom Milham, LTWC co-founder and Secretary/Treasurer, went on the air at all of the local radio stations on October 16, asking for the public's help in finding Gardner after several sightings in the Y area. When he got the call that someone saw Gardner near Anderson Bike Rentals, Milham and Fish & Wildlife showed up with a cage full of food. They safely got Gardner into the cage.
South Lake Tahoe man faces burglary charge in connection with Patient to Patient marijuana collective break-in
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 08/09/2012 - 11:40amSouth Lake Tahoe authorities have arrested a local man in an alleged burglary attempt at the Patient to Patient marijuana collective.
Leslie Decker, 24, of South Lake Tahoe faces a charge of burglary after he was found on Wednesday night crawling out from a glass door that had apparently been broken with a cement cinder block, said Lt. Brian Williams of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. Also found in Decker's possession were several tools.
On July 9 South Lake Tahoe police arrested two others in a separate burglary.
