Nevada starts to clean up after floods; Roads remain closed including Kingsbury Grade
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/09/2017 - 6:56pmMany roads in Nevada were under water Sunday after torrential rains went through, causing rivers and streams to flood. In Reno alone 50 roads were closed due to high water levels, and all bridges over the Truckee River in Reno were also closed.
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) spent the day evaluating the state's roads affected by floods and rain. Multiple state roads in the greater Truckee Meadows and Carson Valley areas remain closed, including those in the Sparks industrial area and areas of Reno, including East McCarran Boulevard and South Virginia Street.
I80 closed in both directions; Portions of SR88 and SR89 also closed
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/04/2017 - 8:33pmWith temperatures above freezing all day around the Lake Tahoe basin, the much anticipated snow turned to rain, creating a slushy mess on all roads in and around Lake Tahoe.
Upper elevation snow has also created havoc on the roadways, with I80, SR437, SR89 around Emerald Bay and a portion of SR88 all closed at this hour.
Citing concerns for driver safety, I80 is closed from Colfax to the Nevada State line as of 8:20 p.m. Wednesday. Mt. Rose Hwy/SR 431 is also closed from Galena over the summit.
Chains or 4WD with snow tires are required on Highway 50 from Fred's Place to Meyers.
