Autism awareness event to be held in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In honor of National Autism Awareness Month there is an event on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 to not only bring awareness of autism to the community with a panel discussion, but to celebrate with a silent auction, games, and food. "An Evening With Autism" will be held in the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mental health and substance abuse top health concerns in South Lake Tahoe

The community has undergone a complete physical and the results are in. Based on the 2015 Community Health Needs Assessment, mental health and substance abuse remain top health concerns in the area.

Barton Health conducted its second Community Health Needs Assessment to identify unmet needs within the community. After identifying these needs, Barton will work with representatives from organizations who provide services for the medically underserved to offer recommendations and a collaborative action plan focused on positively impacting the community’s health.

Grants Available For Those That Serve the South Lake Tahoe Community

$25,000 will be awarded to South Lake Tahoe groups that make a difference in the health and wellness of individuals in the community.

Barton Health will award grants to organizations that serve underserved populations and have a lasting impact on the community’s well-being.

In this grant cycle, Barton Health will fund programs that address the South Lake Tahoe community’s most pressing health needs. Based on the 2012 Community Health Needs Assessment, the top three health concerns are substance abuse, access to healthcare, and mental health.

South Lake Tahoe Community Advisory Committee Meeting

The Community Advisory Committee will provide parents with resources needed to handle every day questions issues concerning their children.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District psychologists will be on hand to answer these questions, and more:

· Is your child struggling with her homework?
· Do you feel like your kids never listen?
· Are sibling battles out of control?
· Are you worried about your child’s behavior?
· Would you like to meet other parents who share your concerns?

Barton Health supports Lake Tahoe area organizations in need

“Empowerment” is the premise of Barton Health's Community Advisory Committee (CAC). After careful evaluation of 19 grant applications, nine-non-profits recently received $24,000 in grants from the CAC. Through these grants, the CAC is able to “empower” area community programs with funding to help close the health gaps and address health issues within the community.

Barton Health grant applications open

In an effort to impact the health of our community the Barton Foundation recently opened their grant opportunities for programs and organizations benefitting the South Lake Tahoe area. Barton Health Grants provide funding for programs targeted at underserved populations and/or providing great impact to the health status of the community. The total grant amount available for 2012 is set at $25,000 and is generally dispersed between five and 10 local organizations.
