"South Lake Tahoe Will Be With Us Long After We Are Gone" - Olympian John Carlos

Regarded by many as the best track and field team ever, members of the 1968 Olympic team returned to the site of their high altitude training center and U.S. Olympic Men's Track & Field Trials on Friday as the location was honored with a California State Historical Marker.

A crowd of a few hundred people gathered at Echo Summit for "Return to the Summit" which honored the unique location as well as the unique time and team. There were tumultuous times in 1968 prior to the Olympics with the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr and Bobby Kennedy as well as the Vietnam War.

City of South Lake Tahoe Releases Public Comments on Airport Master Plan

February's community meeting on the South Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan was attended by dozens of residents interested in the future of the airport. As promised, the consultants on the project have released all of the comments collected during and after the meeting.

City Addresses Concerns of South Lake Tahoe Business Community

Learning about how to run a business in South Lake Tahoe isn't always the easiest task, but the City took one step closer to stream lining the process at a community meeting Wednesday night.

City Attorney Tom Watson led a discussion group in the City Council chambers, trying to find out what issues businesses have with the City and the City Code.

Community Workshop on Meyers Area Plan to be Held Wednesday

Residents of Meyers and the surrounding South Lake Tahoe community have been actively participating in what is called the "Meyers Area Plan." During the last community meeting on February 26 several concerned citizens spoke about what they wanted, and didn't want, to see their in their town.

El Dorado County officials took the numerous public comments made both at the meeting and on-line and have created potential revisions to the Draft Meyers Area Plan.

Meyers Grassroots Community Meeting to Address New Meyers Plan

On Feb. 6 at 6:30 pm, a meeting will be held at the Lake Valley Fire Department to discuss the recent unveiling of the Catalyst Project, which includes a multi-story, multi-acre resort and parking garage in Meyers. The draft TRPA and El Dorado County 2014 Community Plan (“Area Plan”) for Meyers, which currently includes development incentives favoring the large project, will also be discussed. This meeting is not sponsored by any agency, and Meyers residents are encouraged to come with questions.

There will be a community meeting and open house to discuss the Meyers Area Plan on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the dining hall of the CCC, 1949 Apache Ave., in Meyers.

Community Meeting to Improve Broadband Service

Does your business or home have inadequate Internet service? Or maybe you don't have Internet service at all.
The Gold Country Broadband Consortium is working to provide choices for affordable Internet service throughout a four-county region, including the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Consortium is hosting a meeting on Monday, June 24, to hear residents' and business' concerns about Internet service in the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers areas. The meeting will be from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. (Aspen Room).

Community meeting to focus on care-giver issues

Meyers Community Plan to be discussed at April 4 meeting

A community meeting, hosted by El Dorado County Supervisor Norma Santiago, will take place on Wednesday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School (formerly Meyers Elementary School). This meeting will be a first step towards implementing an update of the Meyers Community Plan. The agenda includes a presentation by Supervisor Santiago in which she will review major components and past processes along with identifying current community assets.

Caltrans presents speed limit hike plans to South Lake Tahoe City Council

UPDATE 10:30PM: Plans to raise the speed limit within South Lake Tahoe along Highway 50 were presented to the South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday.

Proposed speed limit hike is topic of Meyers community meeting

A public meeting to discuss plans by Caltrans to increase speed limits within the Meyers area will be discussed at a public meeting, Tuesday, Feb. 21, 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Valley Fire Department.
Last fall Caltrans had announced it was reviewing speed limits between Meyers and South Lake Tahoe, with the idea of increasing the speed limit by 5 mph.
The meeting is being hosted by the Meyers Roundtable Committee and the Meyers Business Group. The public is encouraged to attend and should park on Keetak Street due to limited on-site parking.
