Winter White was the theme at Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ (TRYP) inaugural holiday party raising more than $3,000 for Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) on Saturday, November 19 at Riva Grill.

“I was speechless,” Heather Avila, TYFS Alcohol and Drug Counselor and The Girls Project Coordinator said. “It was an emotional moment for me. I have never seen generosity in such abundance!”

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is partnering with Christmas Cheer All Year and St. Theresa’s Catholic Church to collect donations for local families in need this holiday season.

“We are concerned that so many local families are struggling right now,” said Joanne Marchetta, Executive Director for TRPA. “We want to help make sure that no local child goes without warm clothes and that families don’t go hungry this holiday season.”

The Lake Tahoe south Shore Chamber of Commerce is hosting an incorporation workshop December 7 at 10:00am in the Chamber conference room.

Zephyr Cove Ski Club will have signups and "Breakfast with Santa" December 10 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Kahle Community Center. Many options for participation and payment are available for kids K-12.

In the spirit of the season and coming together in community, the FIRST Annual Meyers Tree Lighting and Drum Circle Event will be December 9 at 6:00 pm, at the Divided Sky and Meyers Downtown Café parking lot. Local business will host the tree lighting and drumming circle. Please bring a drum to join in. Hot chocolate and popcorn will be offered.

A chili dinner is set for Dec. 1, at Coyote Grill in the Round Hill Plaza to benefit Tahoe Magic, a South Shore Lake Tahoe organization formed in 1992 that serves families and individuals in the Tahoe community that are in need of temporary financial assistance. The fundraiser runs from 5 to 10 p.m. and costs $1 for a bowl of chili. Twenty percent of the fundraiser will go to Tahoe Magic.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews are scheduled to resume prescribed fire operations on the south side of the intersection of Pioneer Trail and U.S. Highway 50 in the community of Meyers near South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, Nov. 30, weather permitting.

UPDATED 8:30AM: California State Parks is investigating vandalism that happened over the weekend on Washoe Meadows State Park land near the Lake Tahoe Golf Course.
