The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 23rd Annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at South Shore Lake Tahoe Nov. 18-19. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides skiing and snowboarding programs and events for regional youth and local middle school and high school students.

Consumers may get relief under new Nevada insurance law

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Consumers who have suffered an “extraordinary life event” may now ask their insurance company to provide an exception to the use of their credit information for underwriting and rating purposes, which may otherwise result in an increase in their premium rate.
“This is an important chance for some Nevadans who have suffered an unfortunate event to find relief during these trying economic times,” said Commissioner Scott J. Kipper of the Nevada Division of Insurance.

Lakeview Commons Project Nears Completion

The City of South Lake Tahoe hosted a special project walk-through at the Lakeview Commons Project Site Thursday afternoon, and revealed the almost-finished product that the city hopes will be a jewel in the recreation crown for the area.
“It’s going to be the Sand Harbor of South Shore” said Jim Marino, Capital Improvement Manager with the City of South Lake Tahoe.

Regional transportation issues will be focus of November workshops

The Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization will host two workshops November 1 and 3 to get public input on transportation priorities. The workshops are part of a four-year update of the Regional Transportation Plan (Mobility 2035) being carried out by TMPO and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. The agencies encourage public input to better serve the needs of the community, according to TRPA Transportation Planning Manager Nick Haven.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation has announced two new programs for the 2011 – 2012 winter season under the Freestyle umbrella. The Foundation will offer two Freeride program options, the One-Day Program and the Full-Time Competitive Program. These programs are open to intermediate to advanced level skiers aged ten to 18 who have a passion for slopestyle, skiercross and halfpipe training.

Update 7:14PM: Marie Hanson's family has confirmed through Facebook that the remains found Sunday at the site in Washington are Marie's. Services will be held this Saturday, October 15th at Sierra Community Church, Sierra Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe at noon. More info to follow.
UPDATE 3:52PM: Searchers have found skeletal remains and jewelry in an area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest where a South Lake Tahoe woman, Marie Hanson, was last seen during the Rainbow Family gathering. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that searchers would continue to look for other evidence to link the remains and jewelry to Hanson, 54, reported missing by family since July 9. The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation has opened registration for the 2011 – 2012 Alpine, Freestyle, Freeride and Snowboard Programs. With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Lake Tahoe foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online, at the HSSF building, or by calling the HSSF administration office. Those who register and pay in full now will receive the early registration pricing; prices increase $100 on November 1, 2011.
