Column: ’Tis the season for a little self-care
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/16/2020 - 11:30amWith the holidays already upon us, one thing is certain this year – the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on millions of Californians, causing us to rethink so much of our daily lives, including reprioritizing family time and our mental health. The holiday season may add more challenges to parents who are balancing career, teacher and caregiver duties, as well as dealing with unanticipated illness, burnout and unemployment. Each of these challenges, for some of us, can make the season feel like the added pressures are insurmountable.
Feed El Dorado helping community throughout county including South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/09/2020 - 10:54amThe holidays this year are set to be especially hard for many families throughout El Dorado County and beyond, with many facing the threat of going hungry without the means to put food on the table. To help relieve some of this stress, and help ensure families can eat this holiday season, Feed El Dorado has provided $25,000 in food cards to be distributed by Choices for Children and Head Start on both the Western Slope of El Dorado County and in South Lake Tahoe.

All tips are ways people can prepare for wildfire while staying at home. They will be providing three more tips.

Day of the Young Child to be held in South Lake Tahoe -Canceled
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/14/2020 - 11:06pmCANCELED - SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Choices for Children is once again hosting "Day of the Young Child" on Saturday, March 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center.
There will be booths, kids' activities, games and child information provided by several groups. Other sponsors for the fun-filled day are First 5, Kiwanis, South Tahoe Refuse, and EDCOE.
Free lunch will be served to children.
The Recreation Center is located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
South Lake Tahoe Community Health Fair Thursday

The public is invited to a Community Health Fair in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday, October 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Bijou Community School;s multi-purpose room. Get free or reduced services including flu shots and free dinner from Tacos Por Favor.
El Dorado County will be offering their low-cost flu shots - $10 for everyone six months and older, but they won’t turn anyone away that can’t pay.
Free services include:
- Primary care will be there conducting blood pressure, temperatures, and pulse oximetry
- Covered CA enrollment counselors
- CPR training
Day of the Young Child to be held in South Lake Tahoe

The annual Day of the Young Child will be held at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This free event is for all ages. There will be activities, games, booths opened by local youth-oriented groups and vendors, and information about jobs in the early childhood education field. A memorable family day with free early childhood activities: painting, beading, clay, bubbles, a puppet show at noon and more.
El Dorado County Fair June 14-17

The 5th District covers Pollock Pines to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoma.

Twenty-seven agencies came together to offer a wide variety of early childhood activities including art, sensory activities and physical activities. Children enjoyed face painting, beading, painting, play
dough, planting, rock climbing, paper collages, chalk art, Pequeños Rascal Learning Center dancers and more. It truly was a lively day for families to connect and get information on community resources.
Sue Novasel sworn in as El Dorado County Supervisor

Sue Novasel won the election for Area 5 County Supervisor back in November and has jumped right into the job of representing her constituents which cover the area from Pollock Pines to Tahoma to South Lake Tahoe.
She was officially sworn in on Monday in Placerville, then again at their first Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, then again in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday.

The resort just celebrated a year of independence in April 2014 and is putting into place a management structure that throws away the corporate mold, and invests in the resort’s front line -- its staff.

The Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel just finished $5M in renovations and has started the next phase, a $3M project that will add alpine mountain ambiance touches to its premium and balcony suites, lobby, banquet rooms and pool area.
Medi-Cal Dental Services Available in South Lake Tahoe

Tooth Travelers, a Mobile Dental Clinic, is available by appointment Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. behind the Barton Community Health Center at 2201 South Avenue, South Lake Tahoe. Credit card and cash payments are welcomed for families without insurance.
El Dorado County Fair Opens in Placerville
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/12/2014 - 9:00pmIt's that time of year again. The county fair, full of funnel cakes, carnival rides, animals, music, exhibits, wheelbarrow races, wine and beer competition and good old fashioned fun.
The El Dorado County Fair opened on Thursday and runs through Sunday, Father's Day at the fairgrounds in Placerville. The theme this year is "Photos, Fathers and Fairs."
The County Sheriff's Office invites community members to stop by their booth and see the brand new state of art patrol vehicles. They'll have a new SUV and sedan on display so people can see inside and check out their new features.
