Former South Lake Tahoe resident donates protective gear to Barton medical staff

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The generosity of a former South Lake Tahoe resident is keeping nurses and other members of the medical team at Barton Health safer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brian Gignoux, who spent grades K-10 and early adult life in South Lake Tahoe, heard how medical personnel across the globe were having problems obtaining life-saving protection items like surgical and N95 masks. His medical field friends in South Lake Tahoe were no different.

He talked to Barton RNs Siobhan Keller and Rachelle Pakes, friends of his from childhood, and asked what they needed.

Former South Lake Tahoe resident killed in I-580 crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released information about Friday's fatal crash on Interstate 580 that killed a former South Tahoe High student and Carson City resident.

On March 8 at approximately 2:25 a.m., NHP Troopers were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle crash south of the Galena Creek Bridge, just north of the US-395 Alternate/Bowers Mansion exit.

Roundabout to be installed at deadly Carson Valley intersection

The intersection of State Route 88 at Centerville Lane will receive a compact traffic roundabout, and construction on it begins Monday, April 23.

From April 23 to 27, daytime lane closures from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. will take place with a pilot car leading traffic in alternating directions through the intersection. An approximately 10-day full closure of the SR 88 and Centerville Lane intersection will then begin Monday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m., with nearby detour available via Mottsville Lane and Foothill Road.

A former South Lake Tahoe resident visiting family for the holidays on the South Shore was on his way home to La Mesa, California when he and girlfriend were involved in a three-car head-on collision south of Kramer's Crossing on Highway 395 near Victorville on December 28, 2017.

Chris "Coco" Cocores, 26, was in a Toyota Corolla driven by his girlfriend, 21-year-old Cecilia Casares, when the car crossed over a solid yellow line to pass a slower vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. They collided with two vehicles heading northbound.

Wendy Shehadi 1941-2017

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Wendy Shehadi passed away on October 19 2017 at the age of 76 in Las Vegas. Wendy is survived by her husband Dick; sons Mark and Scott; guardian son Mike Cokeron; grandsons Michael and Ryan Shehadi; brother Dr. Richard Rupp; sister in law Louise Rupp; brother in law Michael Shehadi; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Museum in Carson City to host community birthday bash for Glenn Lucky

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Glenn Lucky turn 65 this month, and the Nevada State Museum in Carson City is planning a big birthday party in his honor on September 27 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dema Guinn Concourse of the museum at 600 N. Carson Street.

Lucky was born on Sept. 27, 1952 in Coronado, Calif. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was just one.

He and his family moved to the South Shore when Glenn was 3-year-old.

Man attemps swim across Lake Tahoe for charity

It had been months of planning and training for former South Lake Tahoe resident Ric Llewellyn as he prepared to swim across the Lake Tahoe in an effort to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

On Wednesday, August 24, all of the preparation was put to test for the endurance athlete as he entered the 68 degree water at Emerald Bay for the 8.5 mile swim across the lake.

Former Lake Tahoe resident Terrie Q. Sayre

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Terrie Q. Sayre passed away Friday in her home in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 54 following a short illness. Sayre, a former Miss Nevada, was the News Director for KTHO and KOWL while in South Lake Tahoe. She made her mark while on the South Shore and in Reno where she was a news anchor on KOH and host of a real estate TV show.

News reports out of New Mexico say that Sayre, who was an on air personality on KKOB 770 in Albuquerque, died after an illness. A close friend of Sayre's told KOB Thursday evening she had been battling the flu for a month.

Author of "My Father's Big Toe" to give readings and autographs

Stories for all ages make up author Johanne Carreau Cronk's first book, My Father's Big Toe, and now the book is available during a book signing and storytelling day at Tahoe Toys and Treasures.

The book is about world traveler and former South Lake Tahoe resident Gilbert Carreau and the stories he would tell his children as they gathered around.

Body of missing hiker in Kauai found; May have Lake Tahoe ties

8/11/14 12:30 p.m. update: Former South Lake Tahoe resident Zoe Walker has been identified as the young woman who lost her life after falling into the Hanakoa Stream while hiking. She grew up in South Lake Tahoe and had worked at Jamba Juice at Stateline. She and her sister Amber had recently moved to Kauai to stay with an aunt.

Her friends and family have been leaving words on social media about what a wonderful, caring and free spirit she was.

Former South Lake Tahoe Resident Faces Second Murder Charge

Former South Lake Tahoe resident George Aaron Carver, 40, was arraigned in San Bernardino on charges he committed another murder over the Labor Day weekend. Carver, who was a patient at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, was charged with the first degree murder of fellow patient, Kenneth Taylor, 65.

In 2006, Carver was sentenced to 4 years in prison for the hammer attack on a Cool, Calif., man. While serving time in the Napa State Prison he was charged with the murder of patient David Wengall. He was found guilty of manslaughter on that charge.
