“We are surrounded by incredibly beautiful dogs and very dedicated owners and handlers," said Belt. “The entire city is so welcoming.”
Adele is now advancing to the Sporting Group competition, which will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 Tuesday night from 5 to 8 p.m. Pacific Time.

I like the process of group decision-making, the back and forth, the quiet and noisy, the 'aha' moments of clarity, that groups have goals and purpose. It may be quirky, but instead of being drained from being with and working in a group, I find it energizing.

During the January meeting, approximately 30 community members joined Mayor Wendy David and Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis and brought questions ranging from the recently revised Vacation Home Ordinance to budget questions.
Seven people missing on Rubicon Trail overnight rescued
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/05/2018 - 1:53pmLAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Seven people on a four-wheeling trip along the Rubicon Trail near Sunday became stuck in snow and unable to get out on their own. They were near Miller Lake, west of Meeks Bay and Lake Tahoe.
On Monday, February 5, Placer County Sheriff's Office received a phone call from family members when the group did not return as planned.
Special wildland firefighter course at LTCC
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/03/2018 - 12:05pmA comprehensive one-week long course, Wildland Fire Safety and Hand Crew Operations, Basic Wildland Firefighter, will be held March 19-24, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. daily at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC).
Instructor Keegan Schafer will instruct students on the safety aspects of fighting wildland fires and the methods, procedures and responsibilities of firefighters. The course includes instruction in specialized equipment, physical fitness, fire behavior and suppression, human factors and general fireline construction.

Marissa revealed an unparalleled sense of optimism and perseverance over some rather large life obstacles in an essay she submitted to the college. Dozens of other students also submitted essays but Marissa's caught the judge's attention due to the challenges she has had to hurdle.
LTCC accreditation extended for 7 more years

The commission reaffirmed the college’s accreditation for seven years on the basis of a comprehensive evaluation. This reaffirmation puts the college in excellent standing until its next full accreditation review in Fall 2024.

County and City vote to extend temporary bans on sales of cannabis
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/25/2018 - 12:30amOn Tuesday both the South Lake Tahoe City Council and the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted to extend their ban on commercial sales of cannabis as they work out the rules and regulations for their jurisdictions.
The ban on sales in South Lake Tahoe was set to expire on January 25, 2018, and without an extension or ordinance in place, anyone could have applied for a license to sell with the State of California.

Sierra-at-Tahoe is holding "Jammin 4 Tash" on Saturday, January 20 to honor the late Natasha "Tash" Sagucka who died from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on November 4, 2017 at the age of 24.
"From the time she was two years old till her last days on this earth she found peace, love and light on the mountains," was stated on Sagucka's obituary. "She thrived from the energy of slashing through the trees and sliding on the rails just perfectly."

10th annual New Year's Day plunge into Lake Tahoe

What started as a group of five South Lake Tahoe friends jumping in to the lake in 2009 has grown, and to celebrate 2018, 70 took the plunge at Camp Richardson.
According to Kelly Sheehan, all of the plungers agreed that this year the weather was practically balmy.

The predominately under-30 crowd come from colleges and communities hundreds and even thousands of miles away to enjoy a specially gathered group of top artists in the electronic dance music (EDM) field.
Along with the fun though comes issues common at most music festivals: noise, trash, underage drinking and drugs.

A group of advanced animation students from the College of the Canyons spent he entire Spring 2017 semester bringing to life the memories of Malmed, a South Lake Tahoe resident.
During Nazi occupation of Northern France, between the years of 1940 and 1945, Malmed and his sister lived in hiding, saved by a French family. The film documents Malmed’s experience as a child during those years of the Holocaust.

Almost local "Joyzu" hits the main stage at SnowGlobe Sunday

Carson Willms and Quinton Pope started playing music together while at Oakridge High, and continued their hobby when they both went away to college...Willms to Sacramento State and Pope to University of Colorado. That hobby is now their passion, and their business, as they release more songs and gather more fans of their unique genre.
Longtime Tahoe Douglas Fire Battalion Chief retiring

Nalder’s service to the Lake Tahoe community began in 1980 and he soon became instrumental in the design and implementation of TDFPD Special Service programs such as rope rescue, confined space and water rescue.
First weekend of VHR ordinance in South Lake Tahoe nets eight violators
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/26/2017 - 3:25pmOver the first weekend of enforcement of the new South Lake Tahoe Vacation Rental Ordinance, eight violations were issued at a price tag of $8,000.
Parking was the biggest offense with renters having more cars than allowed, something that caught many by surprise as they thought noise would bring in the most violations for vacation home rentals (VHR). Four citations were issued for parking, two for exceeding occupancy, one for parking and noise combination and one for being an unpermitted VHR.
The SLT City Council voted in the new ordinance to take effect December 22, 2017.

They too are now homeless and asked the City Council on Tuesday to move into the city-owned building at 1195 Rufus Allen Boulevard, the former home of Unity at the Lake church.

Magical display of themed Christmas trees at South Lake Tahoe holiday event

On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.
The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.
Bears making comeback to Nevada's Great Basin
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/26/2017 - 1:30amConservation efforts are seeing the return of black bears into the Great Basin of Nevada, an area that hasn't seen the mammal for over 80 years according to a study released this week by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), and the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR).
Prior to this study, most of the state's black bears could be found around Lake Tahoe and the Pine Nut Mountains after being forced from the Great Basin by unregulated hunting and conflicts with domestic livestock.

Changes on the way for Tahoe Paradise Park; New board member sought
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 10:36pmIn the works since 2010, the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District is now officially a "recreation and park district." Governor Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 1023 into law that year, creating an expedited procedure for resort improvement districts to convert into community service districts, and in the case of Tahoe Paradise Park, into the recreation and park district.
That "expedited" procedure has taken almost six years for the Tahoe Paradise district to work out.
Backcountry skiers trigger avalanche near Mt. Rose
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/18/2017 - 9:35pmThree skiers in the Hourglass Bowl area on Tamarack Peak near Mt. Rose triggered a 600 foot long avalanche around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Nobody was seriously injured though two of the party were slammed into trees and rocks according to the Sierra Avalanche Center.
Heavy new snow was falling rapidly at the time. The avalanche was about three feet deep and 200 feet wide.
A group of 4 or 5 were skiing in the area, with three of them involved in the slide. Two of the skiers lost their skis and another had a possible broken ankle.

Thanks to Vail’s generous EpicPromise grant, Kirkwood Mountain Resort employees had the opportunity to volunteer at Bread & Broth’s November 6 Monday Meal through B&B’s ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment' program. Kirkwood Security Officers Mark DeSacia, Rick Hofheins and Charlie Noury and David McCullers, Security Manager, all volunteered their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of those attending the meal served at Grace Hall.
