New Trails and Tree Hunt Guided Hike

August 18, 2018 - 10:00am Let the TRTA and our dear friends at the Sugar Pine Foundation take you on a guided hike through groves of interesting trees. The hike will meet at the Kingsbury South Trailhead (Heavenly’s Stagecoach Lodge) and hike south for a little over 3 miles. Along the hike, experts at the Sugar Pine Foundation will spill their knowledge about the crazy and mysterious life of trees. We will hike back to our cars picking up tidbits of cool facts along the way. Anyone like brand new, beautiful single-track trail with a view you’ve never seen?

Tea on Top of Tahoe Guided Hike

August 3, 2018 - 8:30am The Tahoe Institute for Natural Science and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association invite you to spend a Friday morning combining art and nature on a guided hike to Picnic Rock. Along the trail, participants will dive into wildflower exploration, while stopping frequently to investigate the colorful jewels that grow from Tahoe's soils. We will have tea on top of picnic rock as TINS naturalist, Sarah Hockensmith will lead a brief sketching workshop to invite an artistic nature experience while discovering flower patterns and details you may not otherwise notice.

Tahoe Peak Bagger Deluxe: For the 10,000’+ Crowd

July 21, 2018 - 7:30am Have you ever been curious as to what Mt. Lassen looks like from Lake Tahoe? The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is calling all baggers to join them in a challenging guided day hike over two beautiful summits on the Tahoe Rim Trail system, Relay Peak (10,342’) and Mt. Houghton (10,494’) to catch that view.
Throughout the 12-mile loop, expect to see expansive views of Lake Tahoe and as far north as Lassen on a good day, plenty of wildflowers, and they’ll even throw in a waterfall in.

Who Let the Dogs Out Guided Hike

June 16, 2018 - 9:00am The TRTA is teaming up with local SLT retail stores, Dog Dog Cat and Sports LTD, and local dog trainer, Sandy Mathiesen for this fur-friendly two-mile hike in scenic Van Sickle Bi-State Park on June 16 starting at 9:00 a.m.
This is a great opportunity to learn new canine gear and techniques for a more trail-ready companion, learn how you can support better trail dog behavior, and meet other trail-loving dog owners.

Hike with a ranger this summer at top of Heavenly Gondola
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/19/2017 - 4:30pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The sun is out and the snow is melting - now is the time to get out and enjoy summer on your National Forest lands! The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) and Heavenly Mountain Resort invite you to Hike with a Ranger this summer. Hikes will take place every Friday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the top of the Heavenly Gondola. The duration of the guided hike is approximately one hour and will continue every weekend through September 2, 2017, weather permitting.
National Trails Day celebrated with festival at Spooner Lake

The event will include: educational booths, talks relating to the outdoors, free gear demos, workshops, raffles and pictures with the TRTA mascot, McLeod the Marmot.
Sample backpacker’s cuisine, participate in stove demos, pack shakedowns and water sugar pine seedlings. Test your rock shaping skills, fix a flat tire, read a map and more.
Hike for the Humane Society

May 16, 2015 - 9:00am The annual Harrah's/Harvey's Hike for the Humane Society has teamed up with the Action Adventure Expo! Join us Saturday, May 16th, in the back parking lot of Harrah's from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Admission to the event is free, and a low cost lunch will be offered to benefit the Humane Society.
There will be an opportunity to meet Brandon Nelson and Cara Maria Sorobello of "The Challenge" series, and have your picture taken with your pet. You can also join the guided hike, which starts at 9:30, for just $10 for the hike and lunch! Pets are welcome, but they must be on leash at all times.
Free guided New Year's Day hike at Spooner Lake
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/31/2014 - 11:09amGet outdoors and celebrate the New Year with a free guided hike at Spooner Lake State Park. This will be a snowshoe hike if there is adequate snow. The outing will follow the Spooner Lake loop trail, which is a little over two miles. Very little change in elevation makes this trail a family favorite. Park entrance fees are waived for hike participants.
The hike will take place on January 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Spooner Lake State Park is located on Highway 28, ½ mile north of the intersection with Highway 50.

Genoa Trail System Grand Opening

This free event is open to the public and will take place at the Eagle Ridge Trailhead, located next to the green water tank, approximately 1.8 miles north of Genoa off of Jacks Valley Road on Eagle Ridge Road.

the high Sierra. This hike climbs to the crest of the Sierra for unbelievable views - it’s a trek not to miss. The journey is open to all levels of experience and physical fitness. Typically we break up into several small groups. This excursion is offered once a month through March. Cost: $30 (includes trail pass and guided hike), plus $5 to rent snowshoes. Arrive at 10:00AM, return by 3:00PM. Reservations are required.
