This month's topic is the "History of Harvey's James Canyon Ranch."

The Sage Room at Harveys has been a Tahoe landmark since opening in the summer of 1947, and now in 2017 they have embarked on a year-long celebration of this milestone.
The elegant, Western-themed steak house has been popular among locals and visitors alike for several generations.

A twisted chunk of metal, a file of yellowing newspapers and a million memories from 35 years ago are constant reminders of the Harvey’s Casino Resort bombing for retired FBI agent Bill Jonkey.
“It’s something you never forget,” said Jonkey, the FBI’s lead investigator on the $3 million extortion case, who lives in retirement in Carson Valley.

Movies were in a Quonset hut where movie goers had to bundle up to fight the cold. Lake Tahoe was full of one way roads and a 2 room school. The switchboard operator knew where all 50 winter residents were at all times. Cattle walking down Highway 50.
The history of the south shore came alive last week at the Camp Richardson Lodge during the Lake Tahoe Historical Society’s “Do You Remember?” series.
