Sage Room at Harveys celebrates 70th anniversary

The Sage Room at Harveys has been a Tahoe landmark since opening in the summer of 1947, and now in 2017 they have embarked on a year-long celebration of this milestone.

The elegant, Western-themed steak house has been popular among locals and visitors alike for several generations.

A step inside treats not only the senses of taste and smell, but also the eyes are treated to rustic decor that features original Native American lamps that were a gift to casino founder Harvey Gross from the local Washoe tribe. The original bar and hand-hewn beams were part of the original log cabin that housed Harveys Wagon Wheel casino when it was first opened in 1944.

Those who have been in the Sage Room over the years may remember musicians who took care of the other sense, playing for those on the dance floor. Tahoe icon Ron Rose started his local career in the Sage Room before he moved to the Top of The Wheel, and then 19.

On Thursday, the Sage Room treated media to their 70th anniversary menu which features the steak house's table side preparation of Caesar Salad and Cherries Jubilee. They also prepared more of their specialties including Steak Diane and Cafe Diablo, a flame enhanced coffee drink that features alcohol flowing down an orange rind.

MaƮtre d' Ozzie Sanchez has greeted guests at the Sage Room for 20 years. During the presentation of food, Sanchez was joined by Teddy Herrera, who has worked in the Sage Room for 30 years, Armando Gonzalez, 17 years, Evan Derdowski, 10 years and Jeremy Dominguez, also a ten-year veteran of the restaurant. John Haddard and Tyler House were also on hand to prepare the plethora of tasty menu items.
