April 10, 2018 - 7:00pm Presenter Sherry L. Rupert is the Executive Director of the State of Nevada Indian Commission, and the first American Indian woman to be appointed a member of Governor Brian Sandoval’s cabinet. She will share the past and future of this historic institution in Carson City. Established in 1890, the Stewart Indian School was one of the first 25 of hundreds of Indian Boarding Schools instituted across the nation to assimilate American Indian children into mainstream culture. The school was open for 90 years and educated over 30,000 American Indian students in the multi-colored stone structures.

SLT flags at half-staff after death of former Councilman Bill Crawford

In honor of his service to the community, all City flags will be lowered to half-staff through Friday, December 2.

July 23, 2016 - 3:00pm Join the Friends of the Library as award-winning author Cheryl Anne Stapp presents her newest book, "The Stagecoach in Northern California: Rough Rides, Gold Camps, and Daring Drivers". She lives with her husband in Sacramento and volunteers as a docent at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park. Cheryl has written often about the amazing history that surrounds her. Presented by the Friends of the Library and the Lake Tahoe Historical Society. Book sale and signing to follow. Free and open to all.

Dangberg Ranch Shared at the SLT Library

April 2, 2016 - 11:00am Curator Mark Jensen returns to share more stories from Carson Valley's historic Dangberg Home Ranch. Just down the hill but centuries away, the family and its influence is incredibly interesting, and Jensen will tell some tales using the park's historic artifacts, photographs and documents. Join the Friends of the Library in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for a multimedia history lesson. Free and open to all.
