SLT flags at half-staff after death of former Councilman Bill Crawford

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF.: Former City of South Lake Tahoe Councilmember Bill Crawford passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the age of 82 after a brief illness. In honor of his service to the community, all City flags will be lowered to half-staff through Friday, December 2.

Even though Crawford served on the Council for two terms, 1998-2002 and 2006-10, he was a constant observer and commenter at most Council meetings right until his death. In attendance with his wife of 62 1/2 years Jonnie, Bill would pass on his observations on the state of the City and question votes made from the dais. Crawford recently threw his support behind the successful citizen generated Measure T which faced voters earlier in November.

Crawford was passionate about his love for South Lake Tahoe and how he thought it should be run, a community he and Jonnie called home since 1967.

Crawford taught in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District before retiring after 24 years of leading students through their history lessons. He also coached football and skiing, and was a past-president of the South Tahoe Educators Association. He taught at South Tahoe Intermediate School (now know as South Tahoe Middle School), Mt. Tallac High School and South Tahoe High School.

There are no services planned at this time.

He would share historic quotes with almost every comment he made as he visited Council meetings.

"I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death." -Leonardo da Vinci
