SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Step back in time at the Lake Tahoe Historical Society's annual Holiday in History event on Saturday, December 15, 2018. This special day has become a family favorite and you don't want to miss it.

All day long the museum and historic cabin will be open for all to enjoy the decorations on display during free tours - doors open at 11:00 a.m. These will also be a Victorian Christmas scene in the museum. The bookstore is open for those on your gift list and a giant snowflake is free with all purchases $25 or over.

The spirit of Christmas and Hanukkah come to life as the 18-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) presents “A World of Joy” featuring holiday music from the U.S. to Brazil, Puerto Rico, Israel, Russia, Austria and back. Joining the RJO is Pat Ester’s Gospel Choir starring vocalists Pat Esters, Lori Johnson, David Wells, and Caitlin Collins. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will open the show at the Reno performances.

The spirit of Christmas comes to life as the 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra and the Pat Esters Gospel Choir blend Christmas favorites, jazz, and soul - with a few surprises mixed in – for three performances of feel good, ‘get ready for the holidays’ music and song. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform as well.

“Last year’s Gospel Christmas Show with the RJO was such a success we decided to bring it back to the Reno and Lake Tahoe region,” said Chuck Reider, Music Director.

LTCC Chorus and Tahoe Choir invite you to "A Holiday with a Spice" concert. They will perform some 'well-seasoned' pieces, from early epochs - by Victoria and Handel, through traditional British and American songs, like "Scarborough Fair", and finished with a touch of humor from PDQ Bach's "The Seasonings".

Join us for Day 2 of three fun days at historic Valhalla as it comes alive with the Holiday Spirit. Celebrate at the 20th annual Valhalla Holiday Faire, in the Grand Hall,from 10 AM to 5 PM. Enjoy the festively decorated rustic estate at this free event, which will feature a Christmas tree, holiday music, 30 local vendors and artisans, as well as performances by the South Lake Tahoe Children’s Choral Society with a special appearance by Santa Claus!

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular “Peanutcracker – The Story in a Nut Shell” on Dec. 6 in the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

A processional of cars followed behind the decked out fire truck (which also had holiday music coming from inside), the decorated Police Commando truck, and some decorated business vehicles. All were greeted at the end by a crowd that watched the lighting of the city tree, Santa and hot cocoa and cookies.
