Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/23/2020 - 4:02pmUPDATE 5:57PM: Fire crews have knocked down the Topsy Fire and are mopping up hotspots, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It was noted that there were a number of lightning strikes in the area shortly before the fire started.
Another earthquake east of Lake Tahoe - This time 3.5 magnitude
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/21/2020 - 7:19pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was another earthquake Saturday night in the Carson Valley in the same location as Friday's magnitude 4.5.
On Saturday at 7:53 p.m., an earthquake measured 3.51 and is in the area 4.1 mi SSE of Carson_City near Indian Hills. It was 9.80 km below the surface.
This earthquake is one in a series of over 80 aftershocks since Friday night. Most were very small and under magnitude 2.1 before Saturday.
4.5 earthquake centered just east of Lake Tahoe in Indian Hills
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/20/2020 - 5:48pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE Update 7:20 p.m. 3/20/20 - The University of Nevada Reno Seismological Lab has updated the magnitude of tonight's earthquake to 4.5. It centered near Lake Tahoe in Indian Hills, Nevada.
Since the initial earthquake, there have been four aftershocks at 2.0, 1.6, 1.6, 1.5 and more are expected.
The 4.5 was 4.3 mi SSE of Carson_City at a depth of 8.38 km.
These follow a series of small earthquakes in the same area at the beginning of the week.

No reports are in yet for the 6:33 p.m. earthquake and this story will be updated.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office: 2 treated following Saturday night shooting in Indian Hills
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/05/2019 - 11:48amTwo male subjects were involved in a shooting in North Douglas County late Saturday night in the Indian Hills area south of Carson City, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Both are receiving medical care at this time.
No law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time. There are no outstanding suspects nor is there any threats to our community. This is still an open investigation, according to DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.
Douglas County asks for public's help in finding missing man
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/22/2019 - 5:27pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating an Indian Hills man who hasn't been seen or heard from for two weeks.
Rudy Martinez, 25, left his home on Mica Drive on February 8, 2019, at about 6:30 p.m..without his phone or his wallet. He left on foot.
A week later, on February 15, Martinez was reported missing. He is described as 5'8" tall and weighs 161 pounds.
Carson Valley Middle School student arrested for threatening to "shoot up the school"
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/17/2017 - 6:34pmA 12-year-old student was arrested on Thursday evening after making threats to bring a gun to Carson Valley Middle School on Friday February 17 and “shoot up the school.”
At 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call after a concerned parent intercepted the threatening message sent to their child. Deputies responded to the Indian Hills residence of the reporting party and met with the parent to examine the phone in which the threat was received.
Pair accused of abducting their children located in Carson City
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/15/2016 - 8:27amA Secret Witness tip has led to the location of Dason Valdez and Krystle Reid, the parents accused of abducting their two children on September 12 after losing custody of their two- and four-year olds.
Just after midnight Thursday morning, the Carson City Sheriff's Office found the pair and arrested Valdez on a Carson City warrant and they released Reid at the scene. Charges against both are pending in Douglas County but the arrest is based on an previous warrant.
Authorities look for pair involved in abduction of two Douglas County children

On September 12, 2016 at approximately 5:10 p.m., Dason Valdez,29, and Krystle Reid, 27, were allegedly involved in a domestic incident with Valdez’s mother at an address in the Indian Hills subdivision.
$17M Indian tribe construction scheme involved condo in South Lake Tahoe

Instead, Hinz became enmeshed in a fraud scheme that federal investigators determined would ultimately suck $17 million out of the project in fraudulently inflated invoices.
The money ended up paying for luxuries that included a $70,000 BMW, a condo in South Lake Tahoe and a new swimming pool.
Douglas County Man Arrested After Locking Self Inside Burning Building
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/02/2014 - 5:06pmAn East Fork Fire Department crew responded to an outbuilding fire in the Indian Hills neighborhood of Douglas County early Friday morning. They arrived to see an unattached garage fully involved.
The occupant of the home, Blake Lister, told firefighters that he was a BLM firefighter. He was asked to stay away from firefighters so they could fight the blaze. Lister then ran into the burning building and locked himself in.
