Ceremony, street closures part of Monday inauguration at State Capitol in Carson City

Stephen F. Sisolak, Nevada's first Democratic governor in two decades, was elected on Nov. 6, 2018. He will take the oath of office on the front steps of the Capitol Monday at 11:30 a.m., according to his inauguration web site.
Capitol grounds will open prior to the ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and a public reception will follow at the Nevada State Library and Archives located on the northeast corner of the Capitol complex.
"Angel of Tahoe" Lisa Maloff continues to spread joy in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/27/2018 - 2:00pmPhilanthropist Lisa Maloff, better known as the “Angel of Tahoe,” is once again making a contribution that will enrich opportunities for students in South Lake Tahoe. Maloff donated $25,000 to South Tahoe High School’s Performing Arts Booster Association, PABA, for the purchase of new musical instruments for Lake Tahoe Unified School District.
Maloff’s generous donation will be distributed evenly between South Tahoe High School, South Tahoe Middle School, and the four elementary school music programs.

Woodrow Wilson is President and Babe Ruth makes his major league debut. November 12th of that year was when Jean Dahlinger of South Lake Tahoe was born.
Today, 100 years later, Jean celebrated her 100th birthday at the Barton Mountain Cafe with family, friends and community members. Known as "The Dancing Machine," Jean was serenaded by the South Tahoe High Jazz Band as they played "Happy Birthday" and "America the Beautiful."
South Tahoe High Jazz Band invited to Chico State jazz clinic
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/17/2014 - 9:51pmMembers of the South Tahoe High Jazz Band have been invited by Chico State professor, and Director of Jazz Studies, Rocky Winslow to take part in an individualized, private, jazz clinic with himself and two other jazz all-stars: Paul Romaine and Mark Patterson (both of Convergence Jazz Sextet).
The students will also participate in a sound check on stage with the Jazz All Stars and the Chico State Jazz X-Press. That evening they are the invited, special guests at the Chico State Jazz X-Press Concert, followed by backstage mingling with the performers.

Each year, during the second weekend of August, the lawns and buildings at the historic Baldwin and Pope Estates turn back the clocks to a time of jazz, prohibition, prosperity and innovation.
The annual Gatsby Festival will be held at Tallac Historic Site August 9-10. Those that attend the free event will find vintage cars, games, music, Maytag clothes washer demonstrations, a speakeasy, tours and vendors with food and vintage clothing. The popular afternoon tea on Sunday is already sold out.

King Street. This Speakeasy Dance Party celebrates music, dance, and art. Tickets are $10 and admission includes light refreshments, a no-host bar, the killer seven-piece band Brass Knuckles, original artwork, and prizes. August 2, 2014 - 12:00pm The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," in collaboration with Carson City, is proud to present five of several bands at the Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair in Fuji Park on Saturday, August 2. "Jazz & Beyond" runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 50 events, mainly in the downtown Carson City area.
The five "Jazz & Beyond" bands at the Fair on August 2 are Sons of Slide Mountain, RVGS Tantalus, Lynne Colvig Latin Jazz, the Reno Jazz Orchestra with singer Jackie Landrum, and the St. Christopher Project, featuring the music of Tom Waits.
