The month of July will end with a Chautauqua presentation of Duane L. Bliss, as August begins with the Millennium Bugs in concert at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Wednesday, July 31, at 6:30 pm, Doug Mishler will portray Duane L. Bliss, Comstock era lumber baron of Lake Tahoe.

Philanthropist Lisa Maloff, better known as the “Angel of Tahoe,” is once again making a contribution that will enrich opportunities for students in South Lake Tahoe. Maloff donated $25,000 to South Tahoe High School’s Performing Arts Booster Association, PABA, for the purchase of new musical instruments for Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

Maloff’s generous donation will be distributed evenly between South Tahoe High School, South Tahoe Middle School, and the four elementary school music programs.

Today, 100 years later, Jean celebrated her 100th birthday at the Barton Mountain Cafe with family, friends and community members. Known as "The Dancing Machine," Jean was serenaded by the South Tahoe High Jazz Band as they played "Happy Birthday" and "America the Beautiful."

Each year, during the second weekend of August, the lawns and buildings at the historic Baldwin and Pope Estates turn back the clocks to a time of jazz, prohibition, prosperity and innovation.

The annual Gatsby Festival will be held at Tallac Historic Site August 9-10. Those that attend the free event will find vintage cars, games, music, Maytag clothes washer demonstrations, a speakeasy, tours and vendors with food and vintage clothing. The popular afternoon tea on Sunday is already sold out.

Are you looking for a way to enjoy your Sunday afternoons? The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" is offering free concerts in the Legislative Plaza between the State Capitol and the Legislature Building in Carson City on three Sundays: Aug. 3, Aug. 10, and Aug. 17, 2014. "Jazz & Beyond" is a yearly festival put on by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. and its sponsors. People can enjoy these family friendly "Jazz Picnics in Park" concerts in a pleasant atmosphere with shade trees and a bit of Nevada history.

The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" is excited to present a "Jump-Jive" dance party on Saturday, August 9, 2014, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the historic Ballroom in the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King Street. This Speakeasy Dance Party celebrates music, dance, and art. Tickets are $10 and admission includes light refreshments, a no-host bar, the killer seven-piece band Brass Knuckles, original artwork, and prizes. All are welcome; those age 21 and over need to bring an ID. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and the dance band plays from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.

The 2014 "Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival" will open with a "Mad Hatter Garden Party," a ticketed event in the backyard of the Nevada Governor's Mansion, on Friday, August 1, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. The gate opens at 5:00 p.m., and the show starts at 5:30 p.m. The party features music by the Corky Bennett Trio, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer, and a raffle. The Governor's Mansion is at 606 Mountain St., Carson City, and entrance is by the Robinson St. entrance.

Tahoe Arts and Design Academy at South Tahoe High will present its annual Pops Concerts on Monday, June 3 and Wednesday, June 5, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the TADA Theatre located at South Tahoe High School. Tickets are $5 each. Refreshments will be available.

Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be in the Gym at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex, 1182 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe Saturday, April 27, 10 am to 6 pm.

Event to feature live music by Fabrizio both days and Cal Poly Pomona Jazz Band Saturday afternoon; landscaping and defensible demonstrations by the South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley fire departments; door prizes, plenty of vendors and more.
