July 15, 2015 - 5:30pm Aquatic invasive plants are threatening Lake Tahoe! The League to Save Lake Tahoe needs everyone's help to prevent the spread of these pesky invaders.
'Eyes on the Lake' is the League's volunteer program to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive plants in Tahoe’s waters. If you are a water lover in Tahoe (SCUBA diver, paddler, swimmer, beach goer, or boater) and want to help ensure Lake Tahoe’s waters stay clear and pristine, then 'Eyes on the Lake' is for you.
Volunteers will learn how to identify plants in the classroom and in the field. Help protect the Lake while you play.

Exclusive “one night only” performances will deliver a high caliber lineup of music and dance performances to Lake Tahoe’s arts and culture scene. Master Scottish Fiddler, Alasdair Fraser, will strike the first chord of the summer festival in Valhalla’s celebrated Boathouse Theater with Lake Tahoe as the backdrop, in a rare and highly anticipated solo performance.
Snow finally finds its way to South Lake Tahoe

By Wednesday, a total of 5" to 7" is expected to fall by the time the systems move out of the Tahoe basin on Wednesday. The heaviest snow is expected on Tuesday.

It's race weekend in South Lake Tahoe!
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/12/2014 - 9:53pmRight on the heels of the Tour de Tahoe Bike Race around the lake, the Lake Tahoe Marathon has begun Race Week.
On Friday, racers competed in the Emerald Bay Full and Half Marathons. There are 10 different races on Saturday: The Cal Neva Marathon, the Tahoe Nevada Half Marathon, a 5 mile Kayak Race, two and five mile Stand Up Paddle Races, Swim Races, Duathlon, Kids Fun Run, Super Hero 5k, 72 mile Loop the Lake Ultra Race and the Tahoe Double Marathon.
If that weren't enough action, Sunday is the main event plus 10k and 20 mile races.

Kayaker Transported to Barton Hospital After Overturning in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/10/2013 - 1:52pmThe El Dorado County Sheriff's Office patrol boat and search and rescue volunteers responded to the call of kayakers in distress on Lake Tahoe's wind whipped waters on October 3. In a report released today, Sgt. Steve Fleischmann of EDCSO reported that they received a call saying that multiple kayakers were in the water and needed help near Camp Richardson. When the rescue team arrived they found two kayakers in the water, two overturned kayaks and an additional kayaker still in his boat attempting to assist the others.
Three Coldwell Banker Select Agents Make Big Impact at the North Tahoe Ironman Event

However, the hard work of three agents also translates outside of the office. Last weekend, Pike Reardon, Jim Kilen and Penny Echan all participated in the North Tahoe/Truckee Ironman event, with Reardon and Kilen having big finishes, with Pike finishing 9th in his age group and 84th overall. Echan woke up at 2AM Sunday morning to get her kayak in the lake prior to the 5AM start time of the event.
Lake Tahoe Marathon is More Than Just a Race
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/21/2013 - 8:34amFor some, their only connection to the Lake Tahoe Marathon is the billboard sign they see attached to a pick up around South Lake Tahoe. For others, it’s an amazing series of races that fill the south and west shore for several days every fall.
The man behind the race is Les Wright, long time South Lake Tahoe local. It is tough to find time to talk to Les these days. He is working 18 hour days and the time left for rest finds his mind full of marathon details, planning and organizing.

More than running occurs at the annual Lake Tahoe Marathon, Sept. 27-29. The point-to-point runs pass some of the world’s greatest scenery in both states.
Challenges await half and full marathoners as they climb and descend along Lake Tahoe’s western shore in California heading toward South Shore. The run includes the switchback hills near Emerald Bay. Participants of the 10K will also experience some of the stunning vistas by starting at Inspiration Point above Emerald Bay.

Heenan Lake opens Friday for superb catch and release fishing

Each year, that season opens the Friday before Labor Day and closes the last Sunday in October (October 28 this year). If you’re interested and if you would like to enjoy a totally different fishing experience, plan to spend August 31 at that easy-to-get-to location.

Paddlers at Lake Tahoe who enjoy the peace and solitude of skimming over crystal clear waters can now join the Tahoe Keepers stewardship community to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species, according to an invasive species multi-agency committee.
Tahoe Keepers is a free training program designed to help non-motorized watercraft operators guard against inadvertently transporting aquatic invasive species to water bodies within the Lake Tahoe Basin by self-inspecting and decontaminating their boats and gear after each use.
