STPUD candidates respond to questions

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are three open seats on the South Tahoe Public Utility Board of Directors this election season, two for a four-year term and one for a two-year term.

South Tahoe Now reached out to the candidates and below are their answers to a set of questions. For the two four-year terms, incumbent Kelly Sheehan is running for reelection, Duane Wallace is running after being appointed to fill Jim Jones's spot on the board until this election, and they are joined by David Peterson.

Winning ticket pulled for Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation Hawaii drawing

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation (LTEF) recently wrapped up their 2020 Hawaii Condo raffle and the winner is Jordan Richie of South Lake Tahoe.

Richie, an athletic trainer at Barton Performance Center and the Head Athletic Trainer at South Tahoe High School, had his ticket pulled by Brooklyn Pakes.

The annual raffle pulled in $8,000 for LTEF to use for their annual grants. LTEF typically allocates between $50,000 and $75,000 for educational projects in Lake Tahoe Unified School District where local students benefit from every dollar donated.

Lake Tahoe Education Foundation re-imagining their AleWorx fundraiser

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and Lake Tahoe Aleworx have teamed up to raise $20,000 in 2020 for local students. The 20th of each month was to be a special night at AleWorx with proceeds going to the Foundation.

Basecamp Pizza raises $17,250 for Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A year-long fundraising effort by the staff and management at Basecamp Pizza has netted $17,250 for the Lake Tahoe Education Foundation (LTEF).

On Monday, August 12, the popular restaurants in the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe presented members of LTEF with a check.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and Base Camp Pizza have teamed up together to "Go to Bat For Our Kids" by holding a fundraiser at popular pizza spot in the Heavenly Village on Wednesday, May 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Enjoy dinner for a good cause with all proceeds going towards enrichment grants for Lake Tahoe Unified School District students in grades K-12.

Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra fundraiser Saturday: Find out where donations go

Many people donate both money and auction items to the Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra club for their annual Elegant Evening which occurs on Saturday, April 21. What many don't know is where those donations go. There was question recently in the community about donations, so the club wanted to clear up any misunderstandings.

The club recently created a diagram to better explain where each penny goes as they don't have must left over funds after they issue scholarships, grants and other forms of financial support.

New member appointed to Lake Valley Fire Board of Directors

The Lake Valley Fire Protection District Board of Directors has appointed Brian Hogan as a board member-at-large, replacing the seat recently vacated by Robert Rossi.

Hogan is the Regional President for U.S. Bank's Central California and Northern Nevada Community Banking Region and has been employed with the bank for the last 25 years. As regional president, he oversees the banking groups in the region including Commercial, Retail, Business Banking, and Private Banking. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in both Economics and Government from California State University Sacramento.

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones support group starts in South Lake Tahoe

Education and support is now offered to locals on the South Shore who have a son or daughter, or other loved one, who is suffering from addiction.

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL), is a support group of parents helping parents that meets at Tahoe Youth & Family Services every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The sessions are free of charge.

PAL can also help spouses who feel they have to parent their addicted partner.

PAL is open to all sober family members and friends who are 18-year-old and older.

Discounted Sierra-at-Tahoe tickets to raise money for local charities

It's that time of year again...Snowsports Week! Not only will five South Lake Tahoe area non-profits benefit from the annual event, but so will skiers and snowboarders with deeply discounted lift tickets for Sierra-at-Tahoe.

The specially priced advanced purchased full-day lift tickets are just $50 and they can only be used between February 13 and February 16. That's $47 off the regularly priced tickets.

Stewards of Stormwater - storm drain marking

A reception was held Tuesday for those retiring from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District this year. The 11 retirees have worked a total of 299 years in education.

Website help needed by League to Save Lake Tahoe

The League to Save Lake Tahoe is updating their website and they are looking for volunteers to help them accomplish this feat.

They need volunteers to help move their web content from the old platform to the new one. They will have two fun, and social, nights with beer, pizza and wine in exchange for some assistance.

American Century Golf Championship Distributes Over $145,000 to Local Non-Profits

Twenty-eight area nonprofits were awarded $85,000 in donations from the 2013 American Century Championship. In a ceremony on Thursday, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority distributed the checks through funds raised during the annual celebrity golf tournament.
