Lake Tahoe, Sierra brace for winter storms to arrive as Christmas travel period begins
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 7:16pmA series of strong winter storms will arrive in three waves and when it is over, anywhere from 2 to 5 feet of snow will have dropped above Lake Tahoe, at ski resorts, on highways and throughout much of the Sierra in time for Christmas.
A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through Monday morning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra as a strong series of systems moves into the region.
Periods of light to moderate snow will begin Friday and intensive early Saturday morning with moderate to heavy snow Saturday through Sunday night.
TRPA office closed for holidays from Monday through Jan. 1

The Stateline office will be closed from Monday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays. The Lake Tahoe agency's front counter staff will be available to serve customers again beginning Wednesday, Jan. 2. TRPA’s front office is usually closed on Tuesday of each week.
The TRPA website, trpa.org, contains documents, frequently asked questions and other valuable information which can assist project applicants during the holiday office closure.

Tuesday, Dec. 18 will be an opportunity for all to have a nice, healthy dinner and support both Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care and Tahoe Youth and Family Services.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care will be at Freshies, 3330 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, 5 to 9 p.m. for a photograph showing of some of the birds and animals we've cared for recently and will answer any questions.

For 10 years the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival has taken its viewers on a celluloid and digital tour filled with rapid-succession footage and no-holds-bar outdoor drama played out across continents, continental shelves and all points in between.
The film festival returns to Lake Tahoe, Saturday, Dec. 8, at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa, and promises plenty of mountaintops, cliffhangers and enough high-energy entertainment between showings to ignite fervor for the New Year and its spectrum of outdoor adventure sports.
