Holiday tree permits go on sale in the Lake Tahoe Basin
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 11/13/2012 - 10:48amThe U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of holiday tree permits the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 23. Permits cost $10 each (cash or check only, no credit cards) with a limit of two permits per family. Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar in designated cutting areas and must abide by specific permit conditions for proper and responsible collection. Harvesting smaller diameter trees offers residents and visitors a traditional holiday experience while helping to thin the forest.

South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos see August gaming loss
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 7:33amGaming profits for South Shore Lake Tahoe area casinos tumbled in August, falling 19.45 percent over profits during the same period last year, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Wednesday.
South Shore casinos took in a total gaming profit of $22,016,651 for the month, while in August 2011 they took in $27,331,777.
Statewide casinos saw a 3.11 decrease in "gaming win" over the same period last year, the state's gaming regulator reports. Nevada casinos took in gaming profits of $859,240,472 for the month of August. In August 2011 it was $886,835,278.
Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee meets on North Shore

The Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee (LTFAC) is scheduled to meet from 9 a.m. until noon on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Tahoe Environmental Research Center, 291 Country Club Drive, Incline Village, NV, 89451. LTFAC will address issues related to federal activities at Lake Tahoe.
Items on the agenda include an update on Biomass in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Aquatic Invasive Species in Lake Mead, and public comment. Members of the public interested in finding out more about the LTFAC are welcome to attend this meeting.

Man swims Lake Tahoe to raise awareness of Congo

After more than 11 hours in the water, Keris Dahlkamp, 36, changed course and came up just a little short of his quest to swim 22 miles from South Lake Tahoe to Kings Beach on the north shore.

I learned the answer to this question hanging beneath the canopy of a paraglider as it soared several hundred feet over the forested ridge that runs along the border between California and Nevada on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.
The excitement of flying through the air under an oversized parachute was matched only by the peaceful beauty of the blue lake below. It's a vantage point that might have left the great Mark Twain speechless.

Fuelwood permit sales for Tahoe Basin begin first week of June

Permits cost $20 per cord with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10-cords per household.
