Boulder lands on roof of car on US50 west of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A driver heading westbound on US50 over Echo Summit got a little more than they bargained for Wednesday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call at 1:30 p.m. January 13 from a person traveling on the highway that a rock "the size of a Yeti Cooler" was on the roadway, according to Officer Ruth Loehr. CHP responded and found not only the 2ft x 3ft boulder in the roadway, they also found the vehicle that it hit.

OMG Fun Run in Meyers

Come run or walk with friends and support your community in the 4th annual OMG Fun Run at the Old Meyers Grade on Sunday, June 2, 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, First to Reach the Top and Most Laps for the men, women, and children (12 and under) divisions. Winners in each category and participants who complete at least three laps will have their names posted to their website after the event.

There is a $250 award for the South Lake Tahoe youth team with the most members (at least five) that make it to the top!

First snow of the season: Chain controls and accidents Friday morning

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A quick moving system is passing over Lake Tahoe Friday morning.

The road and weather report:

California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reporting an accident just east of Old Meyers Grade on Highway 50. At about 6:20 a.m., a big rig and vehicle collided, vehicle is off the road. Tow trucks are on the way and it is unknown if there are any injuries at this time.

CHP is also reporting a big rig blocking SR-89 north of Luther Pass as of 7:00 a.m.

The Meyers community plans OMG Fun Run and Angora Fire event

Law enforcement responding to several accidents Saturday evening

12:00 a.m. update 11/27/16: Chain controls have lowered to Sly Park Road in Pollock Pines, heading eastward to Meyers on Highway 50. Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels.

OMG Fun Run to take runners up Meyers Grade

The inaugural OMG Fun Run will be held in Meyers on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. OMG stands for "Old Meyers Grade," and that is where the course will take participants, over the 2.6 mile round-trip road which at one time took cars up Echo Summit.

Report of gunshots brings out law enforcement to Meyers

El Dorado County Central Dispatch received a call about gunshots heard in the Meyers area on Monday, May 2 at 9:53 p.m. The caller, a passerby in the area of South Upper Truckee and the Old Meyers Grade said they heard 12-15 gunshots.

A Sheriff deputy responded at 10:08 p.m. and didn't hear or see any suspicious activity in the area.

A check of the area did not reveal anything of concern. No further shots were reported but the deputy remained in the area for an extended period of time just to make sure.

Rubbernecking leads to three car pileup on Echo Summit

A three car collision on Echo Summit Saturday, April 2 was the result of one driver not paying attention to the road in front of him on the second day of what happens to be Distracted Driver Month.

The California Highway Patrol had responded to an accident on Highway 50 just west of Old Meyers Grade. As they were taking care of that incident, a Subaru Legacy driven by Ray Garcia, 48, of South Lake Tahoe was heading west when he looked to the left to observe the previous accident.
