Pepper is a super sweet 18-month-old who loves children and babies. She walks nicely on leash and loves to play with other dogs. She also does well keeping the cats and squirrels out of the yard so she does need to be in a cat free home.

Gregory "Scott" Baker has joined the Tahoe Douglas Fire District as their new Assistant Fire Chief, replacing Mark A. Novak who left the department a year ago to become the new Fire Chief in Vail, Colorado.

Baker, who brings with him over 20-years of service, comes to the fire district from the Reno Fire Department where his most recent position was that of Division Chief of Fleet and Facilities.

Barton Health was selected as one of 100 new Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), providing Medicare beneficiaries with access to high-quality, coordinated care across the United States, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced. That brings the total to 434 Shared Savings Program ACOs serving over 7.7 million beneficiaries.

The South Lake Tahoe Pet of the Week is Samson, a one-year-old Shar Pei mix. He likes other dogs and has lived with children.

Samson is housetrained and very sweet. He prefers a home with another dog since he came into the shelter with two other dogs when his owner became homeless.

With over 1,000 fire hydrants within the borders of the Lake Valley Fire Protection District, they have unveiled the "Adopt a Hydrant" program.

It is impossible for fire crews to shovel and maintain all of them in a timely manner and since the California Fire Code requires fire hydrants to be free of obstructions and immediately identifiable, LVFPD is asking for the public's help.

Van is this week's Pet of the Week! He is a five-year-old Dachshund Yorkshire Terrier mix who like other pets and enjoys cuddling.

He is a chubby ten pounds and dislikes having his photo taken.

Last week’s pet of the week Lyric is very happy he found his forever home!

The latest round of funding through the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) includes more than $3 million for projects to help reduce wildfire risk in Lake Tahoe communities.

The funding award for Lake Tahoe is part of nearly $40 million going to projects around Nevada to reduce wildfire risk, conserve landscapes, restore wildlife habitat, and improve public recreation. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell announced the funding awards this January.

The "Pet of the Week" is Chester, a five-month old Fila Mastiff / Pit Bull mix. He is going to be a BIG dog!

Chester needs a family without children under 12 who is committed to taking him to training classes. He loves to play with other dogs and did not chase the cats that he met at Animal Control.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a burglary suspect in Caughlin Ranch early this morning after the suspect attempted to elude deputies who were investigating a series of home and vehicle burglaries.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015, deputies responded to the area of Longknife Road and Caughlin Parkway on a report of a vehicle burglary that had just occurred. Deputies canvassed the area and identified two burglarized vehicles. Deputies also discovered that the suspect had used garage door openers to enter and burglarize the residences.

Hear from a team of experts about how to stay injury free during the upcoming winter season at the next lecture offered by Barton Health on Wednesday, November 4. Terry Orr, MD, from Tahoe Center for Orthopedics will share what happens when a knee injury occurs and LTCC anatomy professor Beachy Orr, PhD will teach about the anatomy of the knee. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is inviting business owners of establishments that serve or sell alcohol, and their employees, to attend a free seminar presented by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Monday, October 26th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the City Council Chambers at the South Lake Tahoe Airport, 1901 Airport Road.

The South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition collaborated with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the South Tahoe Police Department for the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, September 26, 2015, which saw approximately 50 pounds of unwanted prescription medication turned in to authorities. The event gave South Lake Tahoe residents an opportunity to dispose of all unwanted, unused, or expired medications for free with no questions asked. No liquids or needles were accepted and residents were asked to remove all personal information from bottles before dropping off medications.

Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are one of the most serious challenges facing Lake Tahoe. They continuously threaten to damage its unique environment and famed water clarity and degrade the world-class recreational experiences residents and millions of visitors enjoy each year.

Fortunately, Tahoe is a national leader in fighting AIS, with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and 40 public and private partners working to prevent, detect, and remove harmful infestations.

There are more than 300 Reno families currently living in motels. It's a problem the City of Reno wants to deal with, so they're putting up the cash needed to help.

"One huge problem we see is the inability to save for a deposit,” said Hettie Ploeger, Resource Network Director at Catholic Charities. "Other issues might be substance abuse, mental health and also learning how to budget."

Those are problems the City of Reno wants to help people overcome. They've given a $100,000 to catholic charities for a program that gets people into stable housing.

Sample Tahoe’s newest cocktail creations at the sixth annual Signature Cocktail Contest. Hosted by the Barton Foundation, the community event will take place Wednesday, September 23 at the Riva Grill at 5:30 p.m.

Contest attendees can sample an assortment of cocktails created by Tahoe mixologists who are comprised of bartenders from local establishments, each showcase a unique concoction with Tahoe Blue Vodka and have been known to add less traditional ingredients like cotton candy or potato chips.

An updated Lake Tahoe Basin Community Wildfire Protection Plan will be presented to the public during the Lake Tahoe Environmental Summit on Monday, August 24, 2015. This new Community Wildfire Protection Plan was collaboratively developed by the 18 member organizations of the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) and is the culmination of a three-year planning effort.

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District recently purchased new crew facility Station #22, which will act as quarters for the Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Crew. The public is invited to tour the new facility and celebrate the Tahoe Douglas Zephyr Crew on Tuesday, July 28 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tahoe Chamber will officiate a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
