Center for Spiritual Development classes begin

New classes will begin at the Center for Spiritual Development in South Lake Tahoe. Marty and Amrito Cross are back on an every week schedule (our own level class at FSD is now on Wednesdays, so no need to alternate).

Level 1, Level 2 classes and free healing circle start again on Tuesday, May 14. See details below. Level 4 is on-going on Thursdays. Please let us know what you plan to attend. Spirit Coaching is also available to fit your schedule (6-month minimum commitment).

Classes are at Unity at the Lake, 1195 Rufus Allen Bvd., across from the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center.

Lake Tahoe Roadside Boat Inspection Stations Open for Season

Roadside stations for Lake Tahoe boat inspections and watercraft decontamination are officially open at three locations — Meyers, Spooner Summit and Alpine Meadows — with stations at Northstar and Homewood to open May 23.

Forest Service announces spring Lake Tahoe recreation area opening dates

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will soon begin the annual process of opening recreational facilities around the Lake Tahoe Basin. Campgrounds, beaches, and forest roads generally open in mid-May, weather permitting. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center and the Tallac Historic Site open Memorial Day weekend.

Before recreation sites can open to the public, the Forest Service must hire crews to staff and manage the sites, clean up from winter, remove safety hazards and wait for the danger of a freeze to pass before turning on water systems.

Sierra-at-Tahoe resort offers $25 customer appreciation day tickets

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort will give skiers and riders one last chance to shred Sierra Resort on April 15 with its Annual Customer Appreciation Day. Customer Appreciation Day is all about celebrating the season with fun stories of a season gone by and smiles.

Skiers and riders of all ages can purchase a lift ticket for only $25 on April 15. All of the proceeds raised from the day’s lift ticket sales will be donated to sponsor youth recreation and education including youth baseball, soccer, swimming, and other youth activities.

Tahoe trails need your help to win $33k for improved recreation; vote on Facebook

Out of more than 100 applications from around the country, Corral Trail located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. was chosen as one of four “flow trails” to be voted on Bell Helmet’s Facebook page.

The other two trail types selected were pump tracks/bike park and downhill. Bell Helmets is offering up to $100,000 in technical assistance grants to fund three new mountain bike projects to be built by International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Trail Solutions through the Bell Built Grant.

Tahoe Fund receives $28,351 from Vail Resorts Dollar Donation Program

The Tahoe Fund, Lake Tahoe’s non-profit dedicated to funding environmental improvement projects, received a $28,351 check from Vail Resorts atop Northstar Resort on Friday.

Inmate dies after collapsing at El Dorado County Jail in Placerville

An El Dorado County Jail inmate died late Friday after collapsing in an outside recreation yard at the Placerville detention facility, authorities said.

James Thomas Clark, 53, of West Sacramento, was given CPR by jail officers and then taken to Marshall Hospital where he died, said Lt. Tim Becker of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

There were no obvious signs of foul play and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and the DA's office are investigating.

TRPA announces 2012 Best in the Basin Award winners

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency on Thursday announced the 2012 Best in the Basin award winners and will recognize the recipients March 27 at the TRPA governing board meeting.

This is the 23rd year for the program that recognizes Lake Tahoe area projects for demonstrating exceptional planning, design, and compatibility with the Lake Tahoe environment. Local professionals in the fields of landscaping, planning, engineering, water quality, and resource management judged each category. A reception for all Best in Basin winners and judges will follow the awards ceremony.

Team meeting for South Lake Tahoe coed softball league

Delayed openings possible after vandals target Lake Tahoe recreation sites

South Lake Tahoe, Calif. – Someone’s stealing copper from Forest Service facilities on the South Shore, and the agency’s turning to the public for help in stopping the costly crimes. The thieves have targeted restrooms at Kiva Picnic Area, Fallen Leaf Campground, and Pope and Baldwin beaches, vandalizing the buildings in their attempts to access the copper pipes in the plumbing and sell them for scrap metal. Several of the restrooms had been newly constructed over the past few years.

California and Nevada residents can take advantage of the 35 inches of new Tahoe snow with two free lift tickets through the popular “Plates for Powder” program offered through the Tahoe Fund. Purchase a new California or Nevada Tahoe license plate and you are eligible for two free Alpine or Nordic lift tickets. Tickets are available at 11 participating Tahoe resorts.

Forest Service extends deadline for proposals to operate Round Hill Pines Resort

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit extended the deadline for proposals to reconstruct, operate and maintain Round Hill Pines Resort.

Study: South Shore Lake Tahoe Loop Road plan would contribute up to $25 million annually

(Stateline, Nev.) – A recent US Highway 50 economic analysis indicates that a completed downtown area outlined within the US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization project (aka Loop Road), City of South Lake Tahoe’s General Area Plan and the South Shore Vision Plan would provide for an annual retail sales increase of $16 million to $25 million.

National Environmental Education Foundation awards grant to Tahoe Fund

The Tahoe Fund, an environmental non-profit raising funds for environmental improvement projects in the Tahoe Basin, today announced it has received an “Every Day Capacity Building Grant” from the National Environmental Education Foundation.

The grant program is made possible through the generous support of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. This grant will provide resources to help the Tahoe Fund expand its online fundraising capacity and donor management capabilities. The Tahoe Fund was one of 29 grantees selected from a competitive pool of 160 applicants. The grant is for $5,000.

Lake Tahoe agency OKs updates to watercraft inspection program

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Governing Board approved an annual update to the Aquatic Invasive Species Watercraft Inspection Program during their January meeting on Wednesday. The approval keeps nearly all boater fees the same and improves efficiency of service at watercraft inspection stations around the Lake Tahoe Basin in an effort to keep the $1.4 million inspection program in the black, according to agency officials.

ESPN, which owns the X Games franchise, announced qualified entities representing cities and Lake Tahoe was listed among the eligible destinations. The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund announced Thursday the launch of the Lake Tahoe License Plate ‘Plate Spotter’ program to reward owners of Lake Tahoe license plates with free lift tickets during the 2013 Winter season. South Lake Tahoe Turkey Trot Race Results

The City of South Lake Tahoe held the 2012 Turkey Trot Fun Run last Saturday, November 17th at the Parks and Recreation facility. The Fun Run was a free event for children ages 3-13 and every participant was a winner of either a turkey, pumpkin pie or swim pass. Thank you to the many local volunteers who pitched in to make this event a success, including Raley’s for their generous donation of all the turkeys and pies ad well as the Optimist Club for their continued support of this annual event.

The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to remind the community that the 2012 Turkey Trot Fun Run is being held this Saturday, November 17th at the Parks and Recreation facility at 11am. The Fun Run is a free event for children ages 3-13 and every participant will win a prize. We would also like to thank the many local volunteers, including Raley’s and Optimist Club for their support of this annual local event.

Raley’s has generously donated all of the turkeys and pies as the awarded prizes to Turkey Trot Fun Run winners.
