A year ago, the City of South Lake Tahoe made some choices that resulted in a clear and methodical business plan. We chose to focus on five core missions. That sounds simple enough, but how many times are the words government and focus used in the same sentence?
But it is amazing what a little focus can accomplish. In less than a year, our city is making real progress in pulling ourselves out of the morass that was so scathingly profiled in the 2009/2010 Grand Jury Report.

The event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences on the campus of Sierra Nevada College at Incline Village.
Meyers residents protest, speed limit hike moves forward anyway

Residents of Meyers met with Caltrans officials Tuesday evening in a public meeting to discuss the proposed raising of the speed limit on Highway 50. More than 50 residents, business owners and families showed up to question the wisdom of the proposal and the survey results themselves. However, the results of the meeting indicate that Caltrans will proceed with the changes and the new speeds posted within two months.

EarthJustice, on behalf of the Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore, lists both TRPA and Placer County as defendants in the lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court of Eastern California. Absent from the suit is the League to Save Lake Tahoe, which implied that it likely wouldn't sue when the project was unanimously approved last month by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's Governing Board.

According to a news release, the Dec. 14 agenda remains unchanged and includes a proposed adoption of the Final Environmental Impact Review and Environmental Impact Statement for Homewood Mountain Resort. The meetings are on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Granlibakken, and Thursday, Dec. 15 at the TRPA offices.

South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County leaders to hold joint meeting

The public is invited to attend the meeting beginning at 1 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen partnerships across state lines between the two organizations and among elected officials, discuss opportunities to leverage resources, revitalize the economy and environment in the South Shore community, and improve efficiencies among government agencies, according to a news release.
Settlement reached in Tahoe pier dispute

Tamara Fritz and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency agreed to terms this week resolving violations between April 2008 and March 2011. Go here for more.

Regional transportation issues will be focus of November workshops

The Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization will host two workshops November 1 and 3 to get public input on transportation priorities. The workshops are part of a four-year update of the Regional Transportation Plan (Mobility 2035) being carried out by TMPO and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. The agencies encourage public input to better serve the needs of the community, according to TRPA Transportation Planning Manager Nick Haven.

Most of the changes in the draft document will not need to wait for the TRPA’s scheduled adoption of the Regional Plan Update in 2012 to take effect. To streamline the review and deliberation of items crucial to the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board on Wednesday chartered a new committee to focus on update of the Plan.
The formation of this committee comes on the heels of the annual Lake Tahoe Summit where federal and state representatives urged swift completion of the plan update.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe and the city of South Lake Tahoe are engaged in a tennis match worthy of the U.S. Open. A volley of charges and counter-charges have been flying back and forth regarding the League's recent lawsuit againt the city over the city's recently adopted general plan.
The plan guides overall growth and development within the city.
