Road Beat: 2020 Toyota GR Supra

“It’s just a BMW, isn’t it?” Every Supra owner will indubitably be asked this annoying question at some point, likely many, many times. And that’s a real shame because, regardless of the backstory of how the new Supra came to be, it’s a wonderful sports car for the road.

Road Beat: 2019 Volvo V60 T6 AWD, Momentum is certainly not lacking

Momentum has many synonyms such as thrust, energy, force or push. With this new Volvo, it is most appropriate as it can sprint from 0-60 mph in less than 5.2 seconds a world class time. OK, so there is little question this Volvo and many others powered by its T6, 316 hp 2.0L turbo and supercharged engine are extremely quick. It’s a relatively a new trait brought on about 20 years ago with an S60 T6 sedan, a vehicle I called the Rolex Rocket for its brilliant blue instrumentation ala a blue faced Rolex Submariner wristwatch.

Road Beat: 2019 Kia Forte - Performs as good as it looks

It’s hard to believe that it has been only 25 years since Kia came to the U.S. with the 88 hp Sephia. The first TV ad showed a Kia Sephia following a Honda Civic through the streets of Los Angeles (in fast motion) demonstrating it could do anything the Honda Civic could do.

Was that fireball in the sky a comet, missile, rocket or what?

Social media lit up about stories of a fireball streaking across the sky on Wednesday evening just after 9:30 p.m. A flaming image across the sky could be seen by people from Colorado to California, with most not knowing the cause, but admiring the beauty.

The "fireball" was actually space junk from China's newest satellite launcher a Chinese CZ-7 rocket that re-entered the atmosphere at 9:36 p.m. PST. According to the Associated Press, the rocket was launched from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center in China on June 25 and was expected to reenter on July 28.

Did you see it? Object flies across sky, observed from San Diego to Carson City

A mysterious light that streaked across the night sky Saturday, visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona, was a Trident missile test-fired by the Navy, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

***
KOLO reports it has spoken with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and they said the light in the sky was confirmed through the John Wayne Airport tower to be a Naval test fire off the coast. No further details.

Movie Review: 'Hugo' is Scorsese at his best and a holiday treat for all

The motion picture "Hugo," now playing at the Horizon Stadium Cinemas at South Shore Lake Tahoe in Stateline, is a holiday movie that kids and adults can enjoy. It's Martin Scorsese's homage to film pioneer Georges Méliès, a French innovator who created much of the library of movie techniques back before World War I only to be forgotten amid the strife on combat in France. His films were largely destroyed to make such things as guitar picks.
