Lake Tahoe area roadwork July 1 - 7

The 4th of July is not only a fun holiday, but it is a very busy one in Lake Tahoe. Due to heavy holiday traffic, Caltrans will suspend their roadwork projects at the lake.

Roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from the "Y" intersection to the Trout Creek Bridge will be suspended starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3. The regular weekly construction schedule will resume at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5.

Although construction will be suspended for the holiday, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. This project will make seismic improvements to the new bridge, widen the structure to allow for 8-foot shoulders and 6-foot sidewalks, and also make roadway improvements to State Route 49 on either side of the bridge. Fanny Bridge/SR-89 project in full swing, expect delays in Tahoe City

Work resumed May 1 on the SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project in Tahoe City, a project that will bring a new Truckee River Bridge, three roundabouts, and street improvements including lights and sidewalks.

The old Fanny Bridge will be replaced with one that has a new bridge rail that matches the original bridge rail, plus there will now be sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides.

Roundabout to be installed at deadly Carson Valley intersection

The intersection of State Route 88 at Centerville Lane will receive a compact traffic roundabout, and construction on it begins Monday, April 23.

From April 23 to 27, daytime lane closures from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. will take place with a pilot car leading traffic in alternating directions through the intersection. An approximately 10-day full closure of the SR 88 and Centerville Lane intersection will then begin Monday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m., with nearby detour available via Mottsville Lane and Foothill Road.

"Don't take our lanes away" common theme at crowded NDOT meeting

A preliminary step in what will be a multi-year Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) process took place at Zephyr Cove Elementary School Wednesday evening. About double the expected maximum of 120 people crowded the school's multi-purpose room to view and listen to the agency's plans for the stretch of Highway 50 from Stateline to Spooner Summit in Lake Tahoe which is officially called the US50 Lake Tahoe Corridor Safety Improvement.

NDOT holding public meeting about proposed South Shore Hwy 50 changes

On Wednesday, May 31 there will be a public meeting at the Zephyr Cove Elementary School multi-purpose room located at 226 Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove, with an informational presentation held at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the open-format meeting at any time between 4 and 7 p.m.

Creating transportation infrastructure key to getting locals, commuter and visitors out of cars

Lake Tahoe must improve its internal transportation systems before they can expect visitors to the region to get out of their cars and use different, and better, ways of getting around. That was the message during last week's Tahoe Talks presentation by Lake Tahoe transportation partners, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) and El Dorado County.

Caltrans wraps up 2016 roadwork season in Lake Tahoe, prepares for major projects in 2017

Approximately $158 million was spent on Lake Tahoe water quality improvement projects around Lake Tahoe in 2016, and Caltrans is not done.

In 2017 two major projects will get underway, one on each end of the lake.

During the busy 2016 season, Caltrans and its contractors completed work on two projects on State Highway 89 and made significant progress on a third.
