Lake Tahoe area roadwork December 17 - 23

The following are the Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County road projects being done in the coming week by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
LONG-TERM PROJECTS
State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. This project will make seismic improvements to the bridge, widen the structure to allow for 8-foot shoulders and 6-foot sidewalks, and also make roadway improvements to State Route 49 on either side of the bridge. Completion is expected in fall 2018. December 18-22 - State Route 49 (El Dorado County) at the South Fork of the American River: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for bridge and roadway construction.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work is in winter suspension on a $57 million project from the “Y” intersection with State Route 89 to the Trout Creek Bridge in South Lake Tahoe. This project is building new drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater runoff, rebuilding curb, gutter and sidewalks, widening the highway to allow for bike lanes and resurfacing the roadway. Work will resume in spring 2018 and completion is expected in fall 2019.
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work is in winter suspension on a $35 million project in Tahoe City to build a new Truckee River bridge east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard with roundabouts on either end of the realignment, replace the existing Truckee River (Fanny) Bridge, construct a roundabout at the “Wye” intersection and make complete street enhancements to the portion of State Route 89/West Lake Boulevard. SHORT-TERM PROJECTS
State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Tullis Mine Road to China Garden Road in Diamond Springs: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for culvert replacement work.
State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Gold Hill Road to Lilyama Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for tree work.
State Route 49 (El Dorado County) in the South Fork American River Canyon between Cool and Auburn: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control in a half-mile area around the clock into mid-January for retaining wall work. Flaggers are controlling traffic from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and an automated signal is being used in a shorter closure area overnight from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Cambridge Road and at Cameron Park Drive: Westbound motorists can the shoulder closures of the off-ramps from 9 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Cambridge Road to Cameron Park Drive: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect intermittent traffic breaks from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday for utility work. Westbound motorists can expect the Cambridge Road off-ramp to be closed intermittently from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday for utility work. The ramp closures will not be done at the same time as the traffic breaks.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Mt. Ralston Road to Pyramid Creek: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control and possibly intermittent full highway closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for dead tree removal work.
The Caltrans District Traffic Management Branch has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above. Lanes are numbered from the center divide (#1) to the shoulder (#2, 3, 4, etc.).
