S.T.A.R. program.celebrates 25 years in El Dorado County
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 01/23/2019 - 3:41pmThe El Dorado County Sheriff's Office started the S.T.A.R. program (Sheriff’s Team of Active Retirees) in 1994 with volunteers in Placerville and South Lake Tahoe. The volunteers help law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics to ensure public safety, by performing traffic controls and maintaining roadblocks.
Mt. Tallac students learn how important their voice is
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/14/2018 - 6:56pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While many students across the country hit the streets on National Student Walkout Day, Mt. Tallac students were in the classroom focusing how they can be the future change makers.
Students America Rojas, 17, and Kai Heiden, 17, created a slide show for their classmates and staff. There were 19 slides, representing the 17 students who lost their lives one month ago in Parkland, Florida, along with the copy of a poem written by one of the victims (seen at the end of this story).
Authorities find runaway who threatened a school shooting
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/15/2015 - 8:18pm9:45 p.m. update 10/15/15: Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports that the young man who ran away from China Spring Youth Camp was found at the Walmart on Topsy Lane and taken into custody. He was arrested without incident or injuries.
Numerous tips received by law enforcement led to his capture.
