Eric Michael Berg tragically and unexpectedly passed on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at the age of 32. The severity and duration of his addiction to alcohol was almost entirely hidden from his friends and family. He passed just hours before family intended to bring him to a medical detoxification facility.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are three open seats on the South Tahoe Public Utility Board of Directors this election season, two for a four-year term and one for a two-year term.

For the two four-year terms, incumbent Kelly Sheehan is running for reelection, Duane Wallace is running after being appointed to fill Jim Jones's spot on the board until this election, and they are joined by David Peterson.

Letter: CIty of South Lake Tahoe takes on renewable energy leadership

South Lake Tahoe’s renewable energy leadership is providing the opportunity for the installation of substantive solar projects on the rooftops and properties of public buildings throughout the Sierra. The City took on this leadership role in May after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to become the lead agency for the Sierra under the Solar Energy and Economic Development (SEED) Fund, a not-for-profit program aimed to empower public agencies to evaluate and participate in regional collaborative procurement of municipal solar projects.

Customers weigh in on Liberty Utilities in survey

The cumulative results of Liberty Utilities’ quarterly Customer Satisfaction Surveys in 2017 show improvements in corporate citizenship and communications. The survey also showed overall customer satisfaction increased by six points compared to first quarter results.

The online survey is independently conducted by JD Power, and Liberty Utilities’ results are compared with comparable electric utilities in the west. Some highlights of the 2017 survey results show:

Even with snow on roofs in South Lake Tahoe, it is possible to go solar. Learn more at the Liberty Utilities solar workshop on Saturday, September 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Library.

Utility representatives will be on hand to discuss various aspects of installing and using solar energy at homes and businesses.

Learn more about the Liberty Utilities Solar Incentive Program which provides cash incentives to offset the cost of installing panels. So far, 30 locals have applied for this program which is also available for schools in our community.

Liberty Utilities invites public to new 50 MW Solar Energy Center

A new solar energy project will be unveiled to the public on Wednesday, April 19 at 9:30 a.m. in the town of Luning, Nevada. Since going on line, the new 50 MW Luning Solar Energy Center has supplied 25 percent of Liberty Utilities' customers’ energy needs with clean, renewable energy.

The Luning center is located on Highway 361 at Mile Marker 25, approximately a three-hour drive from South Lake Tahoe.

“We’re very excited to share this official opening with our customers and the community of Luning,” stated Travis Johnson, Liberty Utilities’ VP of Electric Operations.

South Lake Tahoe council candidates share their views on sustainability and climate issues

The South Lake Tahoe chapter of the Citizen's Climate Lobby recently asked all ten of the candidates their views on climate change, green buildings and our carbon footprint and how they can make a change if elected.

The Citizen's Climate Lobby is an organization focused on national policies to address climate change, and the South Lake Tahoe chapter is one of 354 in the United States and abroad.

Patricia Sussman of the local chapter said just five of the candidates responded to their questions.

Nevada solar energy project to supply power to California

Earlier this week, Liberty Utilities held an official groundbreaking ceremony for their first-ever solar facility being built in Mineral County, Nevada.

“This project continues Liberty’s commitment to renewable energy sources,” states Greg Sorensen, President of Liberty Utilities-CA. “When completed later this year, the solar project will meet 25 percent of our customers’ energy needs.”

The Luning Solar Energy Center (aka the “Luning Project”) will be a 50-megawatt project.

Actor Mark Ruffalo testifies at Nevada solar panel hearing in Carson City

A big-name actor joined others in testifying Wednesday before a panel on Nevada solar power rates. A rate hike that took effect on January 1 has caused a ripple through the industry, resulting in hundreds of layoffs.

The Public Utilities Commission met in Carson City to discuss whether to suspend controversial new rates for rooftop solar power customers. They were looking at requests from solar company groups and the state consumer advocate to put a stay on the new rate hikes.

The actor is a climate change advocate and was greeted by a standing ovation after his testimony.

Liberty Utilities to develop two solar projects in Nevada

There may soon be two new solar projects in Nevada, one nearby in Minden and the other near Luning in Mineral County.

Liberty Utilities announced Friday that they filed an application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) proposing to build two separate solar projects that would be built in Nevada and provide renewable energy to Liberty’s customers via NV Energy’s transmission lines.

PACE to help home and business owners in South Lake Tahoe

If you own a home or business in the City of South Lake Tahoe you will soon be able to install renewable energy, energy efficiency, and water conservation improvements and pay for it with a voluntary lien against your property.

Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) is a volunteer program which will give property owners a chance to improve their properties. Figtree Financing and the California Enterprise Development Authority (CEDA) will facilitate the program in the city.

Douglas County Sheriffs Arrest Reno Man Suspected in Theft of Solar Energy Panels and Supplies

Douglas County Sheriff's Investigators have spent the last several months investigating the thefts of solar energy equipment around the region. On Tuesday they arrested 40 year-old Geoffrey Earl Meudt of Reno (a former Douglas County resident) for possession of stolen property, which is a felony charge.

Between November of 2013 and April of 2014 there were five separate thefts of solar panels and associated solar system components in Douglas County.

The equipment was sold by Meudt to unsuspecting buyers who thought the items were the result of a solar energy upgrade project in Reno.

Solar Project No Short-Term Energy Panacea For Nevada Office Of Military

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s Office of the Military figured it would be money ahead after entering into a contract with a firm to build solar panels on three of its sites around the state to supply it with electricity.
But today officials with the office won approval from the state Board of Examiners to seek $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to pay excess utility costs. The reason is because the solar energy being provided under the contract is costing the agency more than if it purchased electricity directly from NV Energy.
