Douglas County Sheriff's Investigators have spent the last several months investigating the thefts of solar energy equipment around the region. On Tuesday they arrested 40 year-old Geoffrey Earl Meudt of Reno (a former Douglas County resident) for possession of stolen property, which is a felony charge.
Between November of 2013 and April of 2014 there were five separate thefts of solar panels and associated solar system components in Douglas County.
The equipment was sold by Meudt to unsuspecting buyers who thought the items were the result of a solar energy upgrade project in Reno.
So far, $25,000 worth of the stolen items have been recovered and the investigation is continuing in order to identify and recover additional items.
Meudt was booked into Douglas County Jail with a bail set at $20,000.
