South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive

Monday, June 11 will be the South Shore Community Blood Drive hosted by Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary at Embassy Suites Hotel from noon to 6 p.m. Come and support the Auxiliaries 46th anniversary for holding the community activity for all these years.
Parking will be validated for Embassy Suites parking garage at blood drive check-in.

Recognizing 55-years of combined healthcare knowledge

Barton Health staff and administration recently filled “The Snowflake Lounge” at Barton Memorial Hospital Thursday, March 30 in honor of “National Doctors Day,” established in 1958. Drs Henning Mehrens, primary care physician, and Peter DiGrande, anesthesiologist, were recognized as “Doctors of the Year” for their dedication and work in the South Lake Tahoe community and its surrounding areas.

The Burton Star Wars Experience Continues

The Force is strong at Sierra for Younglings and Padawans this winter in Yoda's Riglet Park at Wild Moutain Children's Center. The Burton Star Wars Experience uses the beloved intergalactic saga to help children ages 3-6 make their first snowboard turns using Burton's innovative Riglet Reel Technology.

Come to Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church for FREE weekly Bread & Broth - Second Serving from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Special Holiday Meals featured for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
Bread & Broth is an all-volunteer program to feed the hungry in the South Lake Tahoe community. A hot, well-balanced meal is provided once a week at no charge to anyone who comes through the doors. Sarah Hussong-Johnson Named South Lake Tahoe Engineering Director

The City of South Lake Tahoe announced today the appointment of Sarah Hussong-Johnson as Director of Engineering. Announcing her appointment, City Manager Tony O’Rourke said Ms. Hussong-Johnson, “has demonstrated outstanding capability to build public improvements on time and within budget and will lead the City’s Strategic Priority to Improve the Built Environment. Sarah brings a solution-oriented collaborative approach to resolving the challenges of constructing public improvements and will be an excellent leader for the years ahead.”

Bona Fide Books asks community to participate in survey

Several South Shore Lake Tahoe businesses, including the Bona Fide Books publishing house, are in the process of evaluating whether to open a temporary "pop-up" bookstore in South Lake Tahoe for the coming holiday shopping season. To help evaluate the feasibility and nature of a pop-up bookstore in the community, and whether there is support for having a permanent bookstore in town, Bona Fide Books has helped develop a quick and simple online survey.

Halloween festivities for kids and adults

Terror in Tahoe, a new event for South Shore, culminates this weekend.
Hosted by the City of South Lake Tahoe Community Services/Parks and Recreation, and the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, organizers have prepared a haunted trail in the woods behind the ice rink at the Campground by the Lake on Highway 50, dead in the center of South Lake Tahoe.

Settlement reached in Tahoe pier dispute

UPDATED 5:19PM: Environmental regulators and a Lake Tahoe property owner who has hosted events for the League to Save Lake Tahoe have settled a dispute over environmental rule violations that stretch back to 2008.
Tamara Fritz and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency agreed to terms this week resolving violations between April 2008 and March 2011. Go here for more.
