Chautauqua of John Steinbeck and Star Party at Dangberg Historic Park

June 13, 2018 - 6:30pm Chautauquan Tom Lorentzen will portray American author John Steinbeck at 6:30 pm, followed by stargazing with the Astronomical Society of Nevada at 9:00 pm, on Wednesday, June 13 at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
John Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1962. Among his classic works are The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden and Of Mice and Men. The year 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of his death. Although most recognized for his fiction, Steinbeck also wrote non-fiction.

Star Guide: Perseid meteor shower peaks August 11-14

August is prime time for meteor watching in the northern hemisphere. The Perseid meteor shower reigns king during the warm evenings of midsummer, attracting stargazers to dark sky locations in hope of catching a glimpse of a falling star. This year is especially good since there will be no moon to wash out the celestial fireworks.

June 13, 2015 - 8:30pm Members of the Astronomical Society of Nevada will be hosting a “Star Party” with telescope viewing at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 13, from 8:30-10:30 pm. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

Join the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) for a night dedicated to our grand celestial sphere. The Geminid Meteor Shower will be making its appearance during this time, and it is expected to see many shooting stars throughout the night.
You will be taken into a snow covered Tahoe Meadows to relax and gaze at the sky and TINS staff will illuminate the mysteries of the night.
This event is perfect for sharing with your whole family! It is free and only open to the first 30 signups.
Summer programs continue in August at Taylor Creek Visitor Center

The programs are sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service and the Tahoe Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with the Forest Service to conduct interpretive and environmental education programs in the Tahoe. Donations to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation are welcomed.
