Congregation strives to bring even more 'Unity' to the South Shore

Unity at the Lake began as a small study group in Karen Martin's living room and 17 years later is a thriving, diverse and open spiritual community that well over a hundred locals and visitors call their spiritual home. Their spiritual leaders, Stew and Hillary Bittman, are currently in the process of becoming ordained Interfaith Ministers. Unity has published the "Daily Word" since 1924.

Settlement reached in Tahoe pier dispute

UPDATED 5:19PM: Environmental regulators and a Lake Tahoe property owner who has hosted events for the League to Save Lake Tahoe have settled a dispute over environmental rule violations that stretch back to 2008.
Tamara Fritz and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency agreed to terms this week resolving violations between April 2008 and March 2011. Go here for more.

Remembering Fallen Soldier U.S. Army Spc. Garrett Fant

Garrett Fant, the 21-year-old U.S. Army soldier who died Sept. 26, 2011 in Afghanistan, left a legacy South Lake Tahoe can be proud of, friends and family say.  The young man, who attended South Tahoe High School and considered South Lake Tahoe his home, will be remembered for his personable nature and affable character. Pedestrian to be airlifted after being hit by vehicle on Lake Tahoe Boulevard

CalStar air ambulance has responded to an accident this afternoon that involved a vehicle that hit a pedestrian in the 2700 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard at around noon today.
South Lake Tahoe police and rescue have the westbound lane blocked at the scene of the accident, which involved a vehicle and a 49-year-old man. The accident happened across the street from Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
The condition of the victim is unknown. CalStar was to land near the snow dump area.

November election has 12 candidates, one ballot measure

Elections for the Lake Tahoe Community College board, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District board, the South Tahoe Public Utility District board and a ballot measure regarding recreation funds will all be decided by voters on Nov. 8.

Power restored to about 3,500 Liberty Energy customers

Liberty Energy reports that power has been restored after a brief outage in South Lake Tahoe this afternoon that affected about 3,500 customers.
Power went out at about 2:30 this afternoon and was fully restored by 3:15 p.m., said Randy Kelly, manager for Liberty Energy. The outage stretched along Pioneer Trail, to Black Bart and included Lake Tahoe Community College and the South Tahoe Public Utility District sewer plant, Kelly said.
